I am on income support and my daughter has just got an apprenticeship which is great.
She will be getting over £230pw when she was at full-time college she had a part-time job at weekends and did shifts in the hols. She wants to keep this as well. She will pay 25% of the council tax as a non-dependent this she understands.
But,the dwp have asked for her wage slip because I get part of my interest payed for on my mortgage of £33pw.
I asked her for her wage slip to send into them as they requested it but, she said that she is no longer getting any benefits from them and claiming anything that she will not give it to me to send.
What can I do? other than tell her to leave.

Her income will be part of your household income so it is a change of circumstances. If she wants you to get prosecuted for benefit fraud then she is going the right way about it. She may not be claiming herself but she is living with someone that is. If she doesn't like it then she will have to move out.I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

I have had a word with her I thought if I have been up all night then she can get out of her bed.
I told her that if she would not give me her wage slip to send in then she would have to leave as I would get done for fraud.
The thing is that I do depend on her a lot because I am blind but, I cannot go through any stress with this matter and why is she being so pigheaded about this.
She has turned round and said that she is leaving and going to grandmas house and we all know that grandma would not refuse her. Oh, I am so angry with her.0 -
Pinkycat - do you get DLA care at all? Or are you registered as blind?
I am 99.9% certain that no non-dep deduction will apply to the mortgage element of your income support if either receive DLA care at any rate, or you are registered as blind.
The rules for SMI are the same as for Housing benefits in that respoect, so the same goes for your council tax benefit. You will lose the 25% discount for your daughter on your council tax, but as you are on income support your benefit will increase to cover it. No deduction will be made if you are on DLAC or are registered blind, no matter what your daughter earns.0 -
She will be expected to get her daughter to make up the difference. You will lose the 25% discount for your daughter on your council tax, but as you are on income support your benefit will increase to cover it."This is a forum - not a support group. Yes, I do get DLA care for being registered blind.
The big thing is the wage slip having to be sent in to the DWP regarding the housing cost.
She doesnt mind paying for council tax and understands that. She doesnt like the idea of the benefits office knowing what she is earning when she herself is not claiming.
I have tried to tell her that its not her its me and that I get a benefit for part of the interest on my mortgage and really she should be contributing to the house hold. She says that my mortgage is not her debt.0 -

No she won't, that's incorrect.0 -

She sounds like a complete brat. I'd be packing her things for her.0 -

I'm 100% certain that there will be no deduction for her with the council tax benefit - and 99% sure with the mortgage interest, but as a housing benefits assessor I can't be sure on the mortgage side because it's not my area.
Generally speaking, in benefits we are only allowed to request evidence that is necessary in order to process your claim. In my view, it isn't really reasonable to ask for non-dep earnings proof where there would be no effect on the claim anyway. However, it does still happen - sometimes it is requested as standard, or when the person asking doesn't realise that the claimant is getting DLA care, or doesn't realise the consequences on the non-dep charge.
If you wish you could call the DWP to ask if a non-dep charge will definitely apply given that you get DLAc and they may then say you don't need to supply the wage slips. I'm sure that CAB would help you too, if you went to see them.
All that said, I think your main problem is not with your benefits but with your daughter - she sounds like an ungrateful madam. She has a lot of growing up to do!0 -
Have I understood correctly, she's getting paid £230 per week on an apprenticeship? I've never heard of anyone getting paid this much; are you sure she's telling you the truth?0
