How long to wait for payment/contact?

Sold an item on wednesday night. I have had no contact from the buyer despite sending an email. They are newly registered with no feedback. How long is acceptable to wait for a reply or payment? What then? I havent sold alot on ebay and have never had any problems before. I know everyone has to start somewhere but I am not wanting to wait forever.

Thanks in advance!

eBay allow a buyer 7 days in which to make payment. If you accept cheques maybe allow a little longer because of posting e.t.c

If after 7 days you have received no payment and/or no contact from the buyer saying that payment is on the way you can then file a NPB.

This just happened to me. Sold a slimming book to a zero rated newbie and sent the invoice off. After 3 days sent a reminder then 2 days later got a neg from the (non)buyer saying he wasn't going to pay 'cos the listing was against copyright. I have reported him for auction wrecking, and am hoping the neg will be removed, but I'm not holding my breath! He also has false contact info listed.
I hope your buyer is not going to do the same, what were you selling?
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

    Mmmm,

Have one here, 17 feedback, I have 173 100%. Mr 17 bid on one of my items and won on 20/06/06. I've mailed him an invoice after 2 days, an email, and then said in the politest way, "If you do not wish to have this I think we can do a mutual withdraw so that I can relist the item on the original fees."

Still haven't heard from him, and it's now been about 12 days. Call me reasonable but I'm going to let it get to 14 then file a NPB.

The upshoot of this experience is that I've switched all of my auctions to BINS, ie. you can only pay with PayPal immiediately now.

Some newbie buyers are a flippin nuisance.

As for yours Consultant31 I think I'd leave feedback along the lines of, "Convention is that you pay before leaving the shop and then complaining."

Sometimes it seems like anyone with less than 25ish has some odd ideas of how things work in a shop.
  • Well I have emailed again and no reply again.

It was two gap jumpers. Only just started having a clearout now I have a bit time over the summer hoping to get a little spending money to take the kids out. But it already seems more trouble than its worth.

    .

What a pain. I am not waiting that long. The annoying thing is I freshly washed and packed the jumpers ready for posting so they would arrive fresh and at this rate I just know I will unwrap wash and pack them again so they are fresh.

It's a mish mash of several reports. If you can show that a new buyer registered just to cause trouble then depending on the buyers feedback score and length of membership the buyer might get suspended automatically.I had one, registered, bid on my auction then immediately left me a neg (It was a cyber stalker picked up online and the reason why I try not to disclose my user id anymore). After a couple of weeks when it was obvious that the buyer targetted me he was suspended and the feedback entirely removed, no trace of it remained.

However, it is unusual for ebay to do this where a buyer has a history, and whatever happens the auction is not cancelled, they just remove any feedback and make the item available for a relist.

I thought it might be worthwhile pointing out that there may be really good reasons for not hearing from a buyer ( or seller for that matter).

    1. They may have been taken ill, and be in hospital ( I was last year)

    2. They may have had illness in the family , or worse, and be tied up with that.
    3. Their computer may be down - I have to try the library when that happens - 6 miles, or drive 23 miles to a relative!

I know some people will give you loads of excuses, but these things can genuinely happen. I try to leave it 7 days before I get too worried.
Oh yes, and they may have bid & gone on holiday - had that happen before!

Hi Dizzy, yes that's what I'm wondering along the lines of, holiday etc.

    Here's what I have on the Dispute form;

As an addition. If the buyer would still like this item then more than happy to send.
As previously mentioned, feeling is that buyer has gone on holiday or similar.

Have not heard any response from buyer whatsoever. 14-days allowed leading to this NPB action. Easy
going here so offered option to buyer of mutually withdrawing item 5 days ago. All I am interested
in here is recovering my fees.
Feeling is that buyers email address is bouncing or that they have gone on holiday or similar. Unknown.
No contact with buyer thus far. All messages sent via eBay and saved in Sent folder.

An Unpaid Item dispute has been opened for the following item: ZXCVBNM
Reason given for Unpaid Item: The buyer has not paid for the item.
Buyer actions reported by seller: The buyer has not responded.

  • Well it has been seven days today and i really think enough is enough. Maybe i dont have much patience but I dont think i can wait any longer. Do you think it is acceptable to phone the person or is that a step too far?
