? Cheap breastfeeding clothes?

Can anyone help me find reasonably-prced breastfeeding tops? I have tried ebay and all the other usual suspects, but to no avail.

I would just like a simple rugby style top or sweatshirt as baby is due in winter.

Thanks in advance!

Never bothered with purpose-made feeding tops as you dont want to spend loads then it not work out! Hopefully it will all be fine. I found my usual baggy fleeces i wore were excellent as they dry quickly and dont show wet patches easily! A blanket or muslin cloth draped over your shoulder usually saves others blushes - btw dont give a TOSS about others attitudes to feeding your baby in public. The best i did was walking round a car salesroom feeding my youngest ;D
Wear patterned tops, and a waistcoat will give another layer to cover you if you are leaky, or to shield you and babe from nosey glances.
I had a great stripy shirt, the type that i think are made by 'fair trade' organisations, with buttons down the front. Patterns are supposed to be better at making leaks look less conspicuous. Just borrow some mens' clothes, if your bloke is not much bigger than you thats a real moneysaver. Go to secondhand shops and have a look there too.
Beware of buttons, however, if you are going to carry your baby in a sling on your front!!! Babies are cute but not so with an imprint of a zip or in my daughter's case once, a levi's button on her cheek ;D

Thanks so much for the reply! I actually went past the point of caring what people thought about me feeding in public...in fact, towards the end of the 13 months I did it for my son, I kind of wanted people to challenge me as I had developed some pretty good put downs!!

Leaks were only a problem in the early days - some excellent breast pads saw to the rest.

I loved your tips - I am already wearing hubby's clothes, poor love! He may never get them back! I just kind of wanted to treat myself to something nice but then the 'moneysaver' in me leaps out and stops me spending too much on myself! Anyway, not the end of the world if I don't get any...

    Thanks again

i just bought a couple of cream blouses so leaks didn't show so much. also found pads a must, but used muslin cloth, folded up, as shop ones made me sweaty.they were just washed each night. Have fed three kids, and you get braver as you go along. Best thing that happened to me was with my first, and we were on the bus and he was playing up, so I discreetly put him on for a feed, under a baggy jumper. A real snooty nosed woman said, Oh my god, you should be disgusted doing that in public, and an elderly gentleman with a stick told her to be quiet, and it was the most natural thing in the world. He went on to recount how he had seven brothers and three sisters, and if they hadn't been on the breast, they probably would've starved before too long. Made me think, and more determined to do.

  • I don't want to wear shirts as it really exposes you having to unbutton either top or bottom.

I am finding nicely cut t-shirts that I can just lift up and hide him under, absolutely nothing on show. I have been doing it for 4 months so far, and I finished with breast pads at about month 2 when everything had settled down.

Tesco's £2 a t-shirt does me for walking about the house!

The one thing I miss is wearing a dress, can't exactly hitch it up in public!

If you wear a dress which buttons up with a vest top under it then its ok. My kids used to undo my clothes in public anyway!

I found that a strappy top and a great big baggy shirt was ok. I could just lift the strappy top to expose one boob whilst covering what i could with my baggy shirt.

Dont worry about what people may think. Last week i saw a breastfeeding woman sitting amongst the pallets at Makro :o. No one was batting an eyelid. :)

  • I used a breastfeeding breast top and wore it under my normal clothes.

It was really comfy and easy and doesn't expose anything.

  • Wear two stretchy vests - great in this weather too.

Pull one up over your boob, pull the other down under your boob - et voila, tummy stays nice and covered :)

Like Daphne descends I just wear a stretchy vest then a 'normal' top or jumper over the top, this means you can pull one top up and the vest down so you can see nothing!! Although now I'm a bit better at it I just wear any old top and pull it down, once their in place you still can't see much, but it does mis-shape them so don't do it with a top you love. I'm more conscious of getting my jelly belly out, than people seeing a bit of breast! :)
  • If you can wait until the start of January Jojo Mama Bebe usually have their sale where you can buy the rugby top style ones for £5-6.
