    Hi
Is anyone following the Weight Watchers plan on OS?
I am finding buying all the different things each week quite expensive! Has anyone got any tips on how to keep the cost down and still follow the plan?
    Thanks

    Hi Gilly,

Yep, I'm doing weightwatchers, have been for about 7 weeks I think and lost 9.5lbs so far. :)

I'm a bit old style, but I didn't want to change the way I eat in a major way. I just wanted to adapt my existing diet. I certainly didn't want to start buying WW merchandise. I checked in Tesco today, the difference between WW malt loaf, and Soreen - about 40 calories! So, my top MS tip would be to check that any WW products are significantly less than normal!

The major things I've done are:

    * cut down from 2 sugars to 1 sugar in my coffee (only one a day anyway)
    * switched from butter to lurpak lighter
    * stopped buying/eating yellow stickered cheese!
    * stopped buying/drinking special deal wine!

I also found that listing my points is really helpful. I have an excel spreadsheet for adding them up if you'd like it. Just PM me.

    Good luck. :)

    Hi gilly,

I just remembered this recent thread which is similar in topic to yours, so I have merged them together as it makes it easier for other Old Style readers to find all the suggestions together. As always posts are listed in date order so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

Any suggestions on cheap, easy dieter's food esp soups, salads, stews etc.

    Thank you!
  • chicken Tikka.

    Yoghurt
    Tikka spice
    lemon juice

leave chicken bits in mixture for 5-24 hours and thread on to long kebab sticks and cook in oven for about 30 minutes.

    Easy and low fat!

You can also do this with lamb.
Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet...

    Spinach and Mint Pea soup.

Dice an onion and a stick of celery and fry in 1 tbs Olive Oil, add 3/4 litre of hot vegetable stock. Add 150g minted frozen peas and bring to boil. Add a 250g pack of spinach, salt and pepper. Boil for 2 minutes. Then blitz it in a blender.

    and...

replace the minted peas with a diced carrot, and the spinach with 100g of red split lentils and cook for 20 minutes, and blitz that.

Both delicious with no fat save a tbs of oil.

You really need a food processor and ideally a pressure cooker for this soup.

Whizz potatoe, carrot, onion, garlic any green stuff you have and a tin of chopped tomatoes in the processor.

Empty into pressure cooker add good helping of tomatoe puree, a desert spoonful of balsamic vinegar then top up with water to about a third full.

Bring to pressure and cook for 15 minutes.

    Very nutritious and no fat.

All fruits are excellent, but go easy on bananas as they are high in sugars and avocados as they are high in oils. Both are very healthy if eaten sparingly while on a diet.
