Juat checked on the recovery programme and it shows about 680 files found ( which seems to be most of my data) I tried to recover it to the hard drive on my pc and it only recovers about 16 and just says 664 not recvoered as device not ready. I am off to read what it says on the software website. Any ideas anyone?

Device not ready means windows can't see the drive.

So either it has powered down or lost the usb-caddy connectivity, or possibly the hd is really on it's way out - download diagnostic software from the hd manufacturers website to find out.

Run it again inside the machine.

The light on the caddy which was flashing when it was searching is now on all the time. If it cant see the drive then how did it find the files? Some of the files found are coloured Green and have a message next to them saying Excellent and some are coloured Red and say unavailable and that have been written by Drive E.

It could see the drive, now it can't apparently, so do it in situ, and or run the hd diagnostics.
