Old SIM card In New iPhone?
A friend has just had her new iPhone delivered by Vodafone. She's already on Voda with her old Nokia and so purchased it as an upgrade to the iPhone. She claims that Voda told her to swap her old SIM card into the iPhone, but of course it's showing no service?
Surely this canot be correct and she has to wait for them to port the number onto the new SIM? I told her it wouldn't work anyway, as the iPhone requires a 3G SIM, which the old one is not.
Am I missing something here, or are Vodafone talking nonsense?

Most networks send a new sim with a new phone. The transfer from the old to new 'should' take only a few minutes (an hour tops).
Keep switching the phone on and off as that can help. If it's not working in an hour, call Voda back and get an update..0 -
Three do not, and I've just asked a friend who is on Vodafone, and they didn't with him either.
The ported number will be done on the network side, the SIM doesn't really care these days. Leave the phone off for an hour and turn it on again and leave it for a few minutes. If you still have no service, call Voda.
Ive still got my 3 SIM from 2003, and it still thinks my phone number is the one they gave me then. I've changed it twice since then!
