Thanks Browntoaif you can boot from the other XP cd then you should be able to do a repair install , worse case you have to ring the microsoft 0800 number to re auhtenticate ( tell them the truth , corrupt XP did a repair with available CD, never known them NOT to do it)
Is this quite easy to do? Can you point me in the right direction of how to create a boot XP cd from other desktop PC?

This looks like a device driver problem, and could be hard to sort out.
Just try something simple though, if you have a USB mouse, try unplugging it and starting in safe mode - see if it will start.0 -

Hi, I've searched through my DS' PC paperwork/receipts & have found his (e-machines) XP operating system disc.if you can boot from the other XP cd then you should be able to do a repair install , worse case you have to ring the microsoft 0800 number to re auhtenticate ( tell them the truth , corrupt XP did a repair with available CD, never known them NOT to do it)
How do I now get this loaded onto my laptop?"Hope for the Best
