I'm sorry you're saddened by my use of inaccurate terminology, Hermann. I'm sorry about that.I'm saddened to read that you've been conned into paying extra for a service in the belief that they are not a third party provider.
;-)
But fear not, I'm not paying extra, just the normal BT price (well, a bit less for the next year, as it happens) and I'm happy to pay it as I've been with them ever since I've had broadband (about seven years) and found them thoroughly reliable.0 -
I dont get this thread, BT are up front about the whole thing.
I dont think I was even opted in by default, if I was, I must have opted out, as Im not using it.
Do people not read the details of what they sign up to, what they are using, what they install etc?[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
I dont get this thread, BT are up front about the whole thing.
I think the issue is BT dont tell you when you sign up on the phone or online, and theres no mention of it anywhere in the terms and conditions.
As someone said before, BT seem to think its up to you, the cutomer to find out for yourself.0 -
For Openzone/FON look at these links ThinkBroadband
and BT Business

Check on your home hub using whats suggested on these links you may get a surprise They don't askI know personally I'm not on BTFON as it wasn't out when I first registered with BT (I got one of those crappy white ones). I'm using the rectangular version2 atm. I'll never let BT enable FON on my wireless. I'm not having people hogging my bandwidth for my speeds.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Look at this link about Security etcBoycott-BT wrote: »Some good points raised, especially regarding security. Its interesting to see that you share the same public IP address as anyone connected to your HUB - lets hope anyone connected to your HUB isn't committing online fraud!
Another point about security is the documented Home HUB weaknesses, which means any malicious BTFON, BTopenreach user connected via your HUB can gain access to any device on your network with the right knowledge.
Regarding how to disable it, don't worry BT seem to keep this a secret. You can opt out of BTFON but it does not change your HUB settings. I also don't think the BTopenreach network can be disabled. I think the only way to remove these features on the new firmware is to remove the HUB completely and use an alternative device connected to an ADSL modem.
I have gone through the BT site and followed the process to order broadband, reading all steps, however I still cant see where they tell you - the only mention of BT FON and BTOpenreach relates to 'WiFi minutes' which in no way implies that you will share you broadband.
BT's Broadband Terms and Conditions (www.bt.com/broadband/terms) certainly have no mention of this feature.
If anyone knows how to disable BTOpenzone and BTFON please post the details.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy
