This thread by the way is just me being inquizitive - Nothing more
In the old days of banking you had to have a home branch, the one you always visited, usually near your home. Those days have now long gone. Now you no longer have to move branch when you move address and you can transact freely at any branch.
My home branch is still in Chiswick, West London but home is now North Wales. According to Google Maps - that's a whopping 238 miles distance to my home branch.
Can anybody beat this ??

Cant beat that but my home branch for my current account is Llanelli, W Wales and home branch for joint account is Newport SE Wales, I currently live in Bridgend S Wales. However when I first moved in with my husband we lived in Redhill Surrey so my home branch was 215 miles away!0

My home branch is 352 miles away by car according to Google Maps0

My home branch is 1 mile away from where I live.
But there is a closer branch that I only discovered a year ago that is 709 yards away! :rolleyes:Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

624 miles and the Irish Sea between me and my "home branch" of one of the banks I deal with.
That's nothing compared to the distance between me and my home branch for my Canadian accounts though - that's about 3500 miles

When I was with Nationwide a few years back, I had my purse stolen and went to the local branch to get some money. 'Oh no, we cant help, you will have to go to your home branch.' they said, smugly. When I said that was not possible, they just said 'Sorry, we cant help.' It was only when I politely pointed out that my home branch was 130 miles away they decided they could help after all!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

I have an internet only account with Intelligent Finance. They do not have any branches. They do have a business address headquarters etc. Everything works the way it should.
I have gone into a distant Nationwide branch with just identification and a cheque book. They have helped me out of a difficult situation when my cards were lost.

I have an account with Bank of Scotland held at their head office at The Mound in Edinburgh. I'm in Hampshire, so I make it about 450 miles.0

In the old days a lot of transactions had to be done at the home sorting code but the advent of Internet banking has really made it a thing of the past. And most branches used to have many more staff working in them than today. Centrallisation was the buzz word a few years ago. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -

Ah yes, that's the reason you still have that date code grid in the back of the cheque book. They used to punch a hole in the date if you were cashing a cheque at a branch which wasn't your home branch. I think it was to prevent you cashing another cheque in another branch on the same day.
Wouldn't be much use now as cheque books tend to last years !0 -

Thanks - I have often wondered what that's for.0
