They were probably sent to 5 million other people too.

It's much more likely that either the OPs MSN account or computer was compromised. Otherwise the OP would have 5 million replies from people in his inbox.

Not necessarily. I don't reply to spam from addresses I don't know. The only people to have replied were the contacts, who, on seeing who the sender was, smelt a rat. The majority of recipients would have filed under 'r' and blocked.

I have the latest Mcafee security installed

its next to useless from my experiences of it. you can get free stuff that does a better job.

PS. it might be worth going into the techie board and trying some of the guides on how to remove malware as you might have a keylogger (or other malware) on the machine.

    Thanks, i'll do that.
I have gone in to my settings and they had been changed.
The junk mail setting was "exclusive" which means unless the sender is in my contacts list (Which had been deleted?) then all mailings would go to junk folder and the setting for time saved in junk folder was set at "Delete immediatly".
Changed various settings and sent myself an email and recieved it thanks guys
I have now changed settings, password, added secret question, and reported it to msn.
Will now look to find something to check my comp out for malware.
Again thanks to all for your help.

These malware, if complex enough can go undetected on 'normal mode' i got something called 'super anti spyware'(its free) a few weeks ago for my housemates comp, started in safe mode and ran a full search that way, it found a lot more than on previous searches and fixed his comp- this might be your best bet to make sure its gone.
