msn live account compromised

Hi All,
I was awoken this morning by a phone call from a friend who asked me about an email message i sent him at 3am this morn stating i had just got a new i phone and i had included a link to a web site where i got it from. He immediatley knew it was not me (I still own a brick;)) and deleted it.
I then went in to my account and before i could check out what was happening i had three more calls, it appears that someone has accessed my account ? and sent this to everyone in my contact book, including a lot of business contacts. I immediatley changed my password and tried to find a way to notify msn jeas was that a job.
I now can send emails but i cannot recieve any. Has anyone come across this particular form of hacking and if so what advice can you give.
I have also set up a different account now with a different provider but i have hundreds of emails saved in folders in that account (business) and would like to keep them in some way.
Any advice would be welcome.
Also be aware - the emails sent out to my contacts appeared to be from my account (email address) so it could happen to you How you would know it was a dodgy email until you opened it i dont know.

Are you some kind of troll or someone that gets scammed a lot ? :D
  • Chris,
I am someone who can go on line and surf the web, i am proficient in excel, word, powerpoint etc i have a good job - Operations manager.
What i unfortunatley cannot do is see what is happening in the background if i go in to a site i am not aware if any malware has been dropped in to my computer, it appears that a few weeks ago a work associate who sends emails to me all the time (business) sent one and when it was opened it was for laptops again providing a link to a site, this was deleted immediatley but it looks like on opening the mail, it must have affected my account.
I only put it on here hoping that someone may have some sensible advice. So thanks for your contribution and i hope this doesent happen to you or your family.
    ;)

Your account hasn't been compromised but has been spoofed.

They were probably sent to 5 million other people too.

My mum had this happen to her, same email even. Apalling English gave it away immediately.

If so it's a symptom of Hotmail account hijacks. See: http://windowslivehelp.com/solutions/safety/archive/2009/04/29/recent-reports-of-account-hijacks.aspx
