Thanks for these useful tips guys....I'm looking to do a similar trip in late April this year, all a bit last minute but thought I would take advantage of the fact that it'll be partly work!

Can anyone recommend a good guide book for this region apart from the National Geographic book that someone recommended earlier? Sorry I can't who it was, I'm a bit new to this and still figuring things out!! :)

I'd also be interested to hear from anyone who has done a similar trip to this.

I was hoping to fly from the UK (MAN or LHR) to Jackson and then home from Las Vegas. I can't find any sensible flights either cost or time wise - £600+,30hrs+ travelling time, and 2/3 changes.

    Thanks

I booked with United Airlines Yesterday. LHR to Jackson via Chicago. We are flying back from San francisco though. Ours were dear as we are also going to maui
  • sounds like you have it sorted...but on the hotels front...definately can recommend Maswik lodge at Grand Canyon (i was there in about 4 foot of snow in dec 2008 and it was fab!) the zion park inn in springdale (zion was breathtaking) and gouldings at monument valley (they have a cute little museum and show movies for free every night in their own little cinema room - we watched she wore a yellow ribbon and it was just perfect! especially as one of the sets, john mayne's cabin, is on site there!)

Vegas wise...bellagio had some cheap deals (Don't miss the dancing fountains - wow!) and their buffet is very good quality and value.

we did vegas - grand canyon 1 nt - monument valley 1nt - zion 1nt - back to vegas...only wished we'd stayed a bit longer at the grand canyon. drives are all several hours but do-able.

I booked them last night. We are having two nights at Yavapi Lodge at the Canyon. It will now be

Fly to Vegas and drive to Bryce Canyon via Zion
    Stay Best Western Bryce Canyon

    Next night undecided.

Next Night View hotel at Monument Valley

Two nights at Yavapi Lodge Grand Canyon

Two Nights Vegas hotel to be decided but I will check out the Bellagio. That would be useful with the cirque de soliel show 'O' as well.

Thanks to everyone who helped on this thread. Now all booked. Took the advice and booked the Best Western Weston for Yellowstone rather than Grant Village. I have also decided on staying up at the Arches / Moab for the undecided night before going on to Monument valley.

I almost suggested Moab earlier in the thread but I wasn't sure if you wanted to do the extra mileage. You can also have a quick look at Capitol Reef NP on the way from Bryce Canyon, as it's pretty much on route.

We stayed here in Moab - https://www.mayorshouse.com - has a nice hot tub and swimming pool

Nice restaurant with great views - https://www.moab-utah.com/sunsetgrill/

If you have time, Dead Horse Point State Park is also worth a visit - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1a/Dead_Horse_Point_State_Park.jpg

I quite fancy seeing the Arches national park. Hopefully it will be worth the extra miles:)
