I would suggest you think again about staying in Grant Village. The accomodation is a bit like a run down student lodging house.
I would suggest you look at the Old Faithful Inn (or the other nearby hotel) as they seem to have some more character.

Got to admit it did not look to good in the pictures I have looked at on the internet. I might ask for recommendations for Yellowstone.

just a quick thought Colin, make sure that your car hire Company doesn't sting you for a one way/out of State hire charge. Some do, some don't. If you need details of one that I've used before, that doesn't chrage, please shout.

With the Yellowstone bit I will be getting the car and returning it to Jackson airport. The other part of the trip will be picking up at Las vegas airport and dropping at SFO airport. I have noticed that hertz do not charge a one way fee. Any particular company you would recommend for car hire? Alamo seem cheap for the yellowstone bit of the holiday.

    Here you go Colin.

I've used US Rentacar a couple of times and been very happy with them (& I'm using them this time as well). By the look of it, if the price is right, a Dollar car will fit the bill

A couple of changes I have decided on after advice here is staying at the Best Western in West yellowstone instaed of Grant Village as it looks a lot nicer and is close to the park. Instead of staying in Death Valley I will stay in Bishop on the way to Yoesmite. Then I can check out Mammoth Lakes the next day.
  • I'd also be interested to hear from anyone who has done a similar trip to this.

I was hoping to fly from the UK (MAN or LHR) to Jackson and then home from Las Vegas. I can't find any sensible flights either cost or time wise - £600+,30hrs+ travelling time, and 2/3 changes.

    Thanks

we stayed in the Best Western in West Yellowstone . it's exactly like all the other Best Westerns in the world , but at least you know it's clean , comfy and reasonable .

location is good , but everything you might want there is within walking distance of pretty much all the Hotels anyway .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:
