Yes this is a money saving site and without question Miele produce a very good vacuum cleaner that will out last virtually every other vacuum cleaner on the market - what's not money saving about that. I don't know anyone with a Miele vacuum cleaner that doesn't use the genuine bags. It would be like having a Ferrari and then putting re-moulds on it!
I think what you don't get is that Miele's whole philosophy is to design and produce the best appliances it possibly can. 2 Of its company motos are 'Immer Besser' = 'Forever Better' and 'Without Compromise' these are fundamental core values to the company and have been up held ever since its conception in 1899 and is still family owned and run in its 4th generation of Miele and Zinkan families.

So as a fair summary (i have a miele and henry)...
if you pay 2 x as much,
use 2 x more electric,
pay 4 x as much on bags (2 x price and less than half the size),
pay 4 x as much on filters,
don't do heavy DIY (too close to commercial use)!
accept the shorter reach and have balance it half way up the stairs (henry will reach half way point from top and bottom),
you can have a miele, which looks more stylish, quieter with better filtration, and similar durability to a henry.0 -

Im looking for a new vacuum as my Dyson has stopped sucking. I was going to buy the Meile cat and dog vacuum, but now ive seen the Henry turbo vacuum, with the electric turbo brush. These cost £160, and the meile cost £180.
I have a dog, so picking up hairs is a high priority.
The miele has twice the power of the Henry, but the Henry has an electric power brush instead of an air-powered brush.
Which would be better?0 -

Mortgages make money. Definitely don't wanabee mortgage free!0 -
I used to have a "Pet Hairs" Attachment (The Velvety type) till i realised it just picked up the pile from the carpet, filling the bag in no time. Now i just use the normal one.
PS ignore the "Wattage" it does not indicate the Power of the Vacuum--- I use Henry on 1/2 power, and with the adjustment on the handle open (Minimum)
Its still more than powerful enoungh, thous its only using 600W0 -

I do feel this is all rather pointless. But anyway you are wrong or miss guided on a few of your points.
1) You are wrong on your price comparison, a Henry costs around £90 where as a Miele S4212 costs around £140. It is more but not twice as much.
2) Weight - A Henry is 6.6 Kg. A Miele S4212 is 6.5 Kg with all accessories atached. So I think that means the Miele is lighter!
3)You could use more electricity with a Miele depending on the setting the user requires.
4) I don't know if you pay twice as much on bags but with a Miele and a normal 3 bed house you should go through 2 x boxes of bags and filters a year costing in total £16. I don't know about you but I feel this is a small price to pay for the best filtration in the industry.
5)Miele bags are 3.5 ltrs and really you should put a new one in every 4/6 weeks. So if the bag was larger you are saying you would change it less. So therefore you have all sorts of dirt and bacteria hanging about in your cleaner for months! - No thank you.
6) Filter costs are included with the bags. (£16 per year for bags and filters)
7) A Miele can easily take on 'heavy DIY' just put a new bag in when finished.
8) Shorter reach - yeah, but how much more than 9m do you need? I suppose if you want to do the neighbours vacuuming while leaving it plugged into your electric supply you would need 'more reach'!
You are very miss informed about the suction rates, as you say this is very important in a vacuum cleaner, a Henry has a flow rate of 45 liters per second a Miele with a 2000w motor has a rate of 71 litres per second. One of the most amazing things is that it will do all this far quieter as well! A sign of true quality engineering.
As I have previously said there is nothing wrong with Henry vacuums, I would much rather have one than a Dyson, but in essence a Miele is all about quality engineering so it doesn't need a face painted on the front of it!
