A recent poll suggested that 90% of statistics are rubbish.

The filters on my machine are washable and reuseable. There are no consumables for the Dyson I have.

Personally I owned a Dyson, it went on and on and on - and gave it away fully working...then I bought a SEBO as they are meant to be the dogs danglies......back to Dyson after the second SEBO packed up (gaurantee replacement for the first).

Although echoing other peoples comments I have a Henry for my warehouse office. It's a great machine until you need to do stairs.

I admire your brand loyalty, but I just buy what works, not what the badge says...I fell into that trap with the SEBO.

Then there's the small matter of the Miele's 2 year guarantee vs Dyson 5 years......If it's that good why only 2 years?

    Hi Alan M

Actually for just £30 Miele will guarantee their vacuums for 10 years and that includes the first box of bags, so effectively it costs just £22. That's the confidence Miele have in their vacuums as they are built to last in excess of 20 years! How long are Dyon's meant to last? Not 20 years I would think.

You and others have mentioned Henry cleaners, they are fine and very robust for commercial applications but comparing them to a Miele would be rather like comparing an old Land Rover Defender to a Modern Mercedes. The Miele will out perform the Henry in many ways, but the main one, as it will out perform Dyson as well by a mile is filtration. Miele are unique as the whole of the vacuum air path and system has been fully certified by the Allergy Foundation rather than any other so called Hepa filtered vacuums where only the filter itself is certified.

Not for commercial use though. A henry is used commerically 8 hrs per day, 5 days per week!

An old defender will out perform a miele in many ways too. It may be less stylish but its cheaper, more robust, go off road, larger load space etc. That's why you dont see many modern merc's carrying our troops around afganistan and why you buy a henry instead of a miele. If a henry is fine and very robust for commercial applications then it would be bullet proof in the home.
You can get a electric powered turbo brush on the henry but you can't on miele, and the air powered turbo brush on the miele reduces suction and stops turning if it actually touches the carpet or you put your finger on it - what a joke! Miele owners would be shocked how much dirt/hairs can be further pulled out the carpet with a henry electric powered turbo brush of bissel pet eraser.
The Miele is 2000/2200 watts v's 1000/1200 watts on a henry yet the miele has less air watts or l/min flow! How inefficient!!
Commericial cleaning companies have a very quick pay back on there product/tools so paying £60 extra for miele would not be a problem if it was so much better and only costs 1-2 days wages. They want the cleaning done as quickly and as effectively as possible without the inconvenience of breakdowns etc. The most cost effective tool is a henry. Ever seen professional cleaning companies using mieles?
When i get my £5M penthouse with no children/pets/DIY etc and pay to get my car valeted, i may condider a Miele. Until then i'll use the best tool for the job! The henry bag is 2 X bigger, cost half the price, the machine is 1kg lighter (apart from the cheapo blue one).
I think that as a CK designer and from the analogies you use, you are putting too much emphasis on styling and not enough on the fitness for purpose / cost effectiveness in a working class environment.

LOL!!!!!! Lets not get too excited here!

There is nothing wrong with a Henry in its right environment. They are built for the commercial situation which has different requirements to domestic. You wouldn't buy a Porsche 911 if it was going to be your only car and you had 4 children, or it probably wouldn't be very practical to have a family car if you needed to shift 10 to of paving slabs every week!

Miele vacuums are built for the domestic situation so the most important factors are long life, reliability and dust extraction. Without question Miele are THE best vacuums for filtration that's why you will see in my previous post they are the only fully certified vacuums by the Allergy Foundation.

Just to correct you on a point about the electrically driven brushes. Miele also supply actually 2 versions of electrically driven brushes for all of their cylinders as well as the air driven brush system.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but without question Miele is virtually the only domestic appliance manufacturer that designs products to do the job rather than to design a product to fit a certain price point. If you think about this design policy and understand it you will realise that somewhere along the line other products are compromised in one way or another.

I bought a brand new Hoover Hurricane bagless from a powerseller on Ebay a couple of months ago ... £22 plus £10 delivery. Saw the same model in Currys the other week ... £89.

    So shop around !

Anyway, this is our first bagless model, hepa filter etc. We must have a truly dirty house because this new Hoover just about lifts the carpets, we have to empty the bucket thing every week. It's the best vacuum we've ever had and about a quarter of the price of this Miele everyones talking about.

    Hi

There is no question you got your Hoover at a very good price. The thing is all vacuum cleaners are good straight out of the box, but what is it going to be like this time next year? Let alone 10 years time!

I'm not saying your cleaner isn't any good for the money, but with Miele you do actually get what you pay for.

I'm 44 years old. I'm left handed. I smoke. I don't exercise. I'm a terrible driver. I hate my job. I hate my relatives. I live in the West of Scotland.

I've every confidence my Hoover Hurricane will outlive me. I'll leave it to you in my will

I am a Meile convert and I have gone on to convert many other people.

However, there is only so much you can do to convince someone!!

I like all my household dust and dirt to be in a nice handy bag to pop into the dustbin without it all coming back at me!! :D

I also went on to buy a Meile washing machine and dishwasher!
  • I want an upright vacuum that's good for carpet pile,I have short cut pile carpet and want something that keeps the pile fluffed up.
    Especially on the stairs.
I have a dyson which is rubbish and a vax with a Turbo brush which is good but heavy and cumbersome.
I don't mind the cost but would love some suggestions,do Henry's come in uprights?.
    Thanks.
