Spanish Mobiles
Options
Hi Gang
I've a friend living in Spain and they are going through a bad patch at the moment. I'm phoning them everyday now (landline to mobile) it seems that Discount Dial at 9p minute is the least expensive.
My question is if you are going to be make reasonably long calls on a daily basis is there any other way of cutting back on the cost.
Hopefully in a few weeks time it will be landline to landline.

You can get cheap international calls from Telewest in the UK and from Dial Direct Telecom (via Telefonica) in Spain. Sorry, don't know what the rates are but an itemised call on my Dial Direct bill is 1.4 minutes for 0.67 euros (you have to pay the Telefonica rental on top of these charges).
This is landline, sorry, don't know anything about mobiles.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
If you are on Orange/Tmobile/Virign you could use one of the 07744 callthrough providers to call a Spanish sim out of your inclusive xnet minutes.
Having looked briefly for a friend last week, I think that it's available Mon-Fri 0800-1800.
HTH
BTW, seven-day-weekend if your are paying more than 0.5ppm to call a Spanish landline then you are getting really stung! There are a few cheaper ways than even this but I kept a simple method (Dialwise) for comparison purpose. I hope that I misunderstood your post...and then the window licker said to me...0 -
Hi!
It could possibly be cheaper for your friends to phone you, using a public phone. We used Eurocard phone cards, which give over 200 minutes of phone time for 6 euros. They are available in many places, such as newsagents etc. There are many different types of phone card, but we found Eurocard was about the best for ringing the UK.0 -

If you use the free 02 sim cards can't they be used as your sim card whilst you are away

Lara,
in a word, no. As it's a UK sim, if used abroad it would incur (massive) roaming charges......and then the window licker said to me...0 -
Thanks knuckledragger - I seem to have lost my "thanks" button again
