Virgin DD not taken

Basically DD is the 13th. I rang them on the 7th asking if it could be pushed back a day to the 14th as the bill was larger than normal (added movies on over xmas) and the 14th i would (well OH would) be paid again.

Told that wasn't a problem and they'd change it to the 15th to make it easier.

Checked internet banking 13th to make sure they hadn't messed up and nope they hadn't, no DD taken.

So today when it should of been taken, it hasn't. So rang them to ask when i can expect it to be taken and was told its not possible to change DD dates and the money was taken on the 13th. Told them that no it wasn't and not enough money was available anyway. So then rang them back and checked my account balance myself through the automated system for it to confirm that the balance was £0.

Rang the bank and no they hadn't requested the money on the 13th so no i hadn't gone overdrawn (this is what i was worried about) and the last time it was requested was the 14th Dec.

So how on earth can a companies system show up as though they have my bill paid when they didn't even request the money?

Do i leave it for them to sort out or do i pay them over the phone? Im worried about doing this as if i pay over the phone and then they request the DD i have then paid twice.

I'd leave it and hope they have messed up although i can't see it. These greedy companies don't miss a trick.

You never know, the system might have messed up what with changing the dates etc.

You've done your bit by phoning and telling them. The only annoying thing is not knowing if an unexpected payment might come out at a random date for this bill, so I can see where you are coming from with wanting to just pay up

pay it by card. then if the amount does get took you don't have to pay next month because of the credit balance simple.

Some companies mark your account as paid when they start the request for the direct debit, the actual direct debit can take 3 further days before it comes out of your account. If the direct debit bounces the company then reverses the credit on your account and start chasing you for it. Not saying this applies in your case but it could be.
