Delays in internet orders because of the bad weather

Hi all

Not a praise or a rant as such, so not sure if this is the right place to post or not, we will see!

Just wondered what everyone's experience of internet shopping orders has been in relation to the bad weather we've handled. I've made three orders recently, one was despatched straight away and arrived a few days later than normal through Royal Mail, which seemed reasonable.

For the other two - one was ordered on 4th Jan and was apparently sent yesterday, but after emailing them to enquire, I've been told to expect it within a further 10-14 working days (which seems long to me, not sure if I'm being unreasonable or not).

Final order placed on 4th, sent on the 11th by courier but still not received. Have not yet enquired after this one.

What has everyone else's experience been? Do you think it would be reasonable to ask for a refund for the delivery charge for the second order if it does take that long to turn up? I appreciate it's been terrible weather, but 20+ working days does seem a lot to me.

Can I ask is it from a big store?

Fairly large but not your huge high street chain if that makes sense, more of a large mail order company (that also has bricks and mortar shops)

Then its definately worth asking for a refund of the postage, its not good enough to blame the weather. Email them and keep emailing if they say no giving your reasons each time. I really hate bad service.

I have had 3 lots of postage refunded recently because of cancelled items not worth making postage costs worthwhile.

In the last week I have received 5 parcels from m & S and 2 from BHS. I ordered these over the last 6 days so they have managed to get through despite the weather.

Thanks, glad you think I'm not being unreasonable. I have to say I don't see why it should take a further 10-14 days, but I suppose I don't know where their warehouse is based.

    Will email and ask!

I've just worked it out and if the delivery is as delayed as they say, it'll be nearly a month since I ordered it before it arrived. That's got to be too long.

We didn't had any post delivered in our street for about 8 days, I've just received 2 days ago a parcel I've ordered from amazon Marketplace on the 4th of December!!

I fail to see why the OP should be entitled for a refund of the delivery charge unless they had paid extra for a faster delivery. As long as the items are delivered, then what is the problem. They haven't had to go out and get the items themself, so the delivery charge will have been worth it (this is, after all, why you order online).

I didn't pay for express delivery but their T&Cs state you should expect your order within 5 working days. I understand we've had bad weather but I think if it takes a month instead, that's a bit much. But as I said in my OP I appreciate it has been bad weather, and was asking for others' experiences to compare to.

My goodness that's a long time - have you had bad weather since the 4th Dec? We've had quite a bit here, but it didn't start til Christmas week.

  • I placed an order with Bench.co.uk on 23rd december, still waiting for it despite 2 emails and a phonecall.
Also ordered a dryer which was supposed to be coming on the 6th, but didn't due to the weather. They called me that day to say they would be in touch as soon as the depot was open again. By the 11th I'd still not heard from them so called them and was told the earliest they could do was the 18th! You'd think the cancelled deliveries from the 6th would have taken priority. Also, I wonder how long it would have taken them to contact me if I hadn't called them???
