I have a greenhouse in my garden what can i grow in it
Hi
When my dad was living he was an avid gardener, his greenhouse is still in the back garden and i was thinking i might put it to good use.
Can anyone recommend what i could grow in it. He used to use it for tomatoes and cucumbers.I would like to grow some herb would it be okay in here.
He used to have a heater in it but it has been disconnected if this is relevant.
I also have a large patio are around it and was thinking of growing some container veg or fruit, does anyone have any suggestions of what i could plant?
Thanks again.
MArgaret
thanks for any advice

What do you like to eat?
There is so much choice and you could grow so many things you need to decide what you want to eat first!
Bless Martin's Little Cotton Socks. I thank him for giving us MSE. Look what its grown into!

you can grow peppers, chillies, tomatoes, cucumbers
you can grow lots of things
herbs dont need to go in a greenhouse
i am in chilly scotland and grow them outdoors 9 months of the year
you could put them in there during the winter months for a continual supply
growing in containers is also easy, last year i grew carrots, potatoes, radish, beetroot, spring onions, spinach etc all in pots to suppliment my beds
once you start, you will never look back!0 -
I treated myself to a gardening book today 'Alan Titchmarsh- The Kitchen Gardener' its not about growing in the greenhouse but its great if you are new at growing your own. It covers Vegetables,Fruits and Herbs with loads of advice including whats good in pots, how to sow/plant etc, general care, problems and a degree of difficulty! Really worth a look!
I got it at halfprice from WHSmiths,so if you pass one, pop in and take a look!
Good luck!Little_Miss_Bubbles

I think you should dismantle it and send it to me :rotfl: no? drat!
What do you like eating? You can grow LOADS of stuff in a green house - obviously more variety if you heat it but even without you can extend the growing season of loads of veg

Thanks everyone, I suppose I should have told you what I want to grow and you could have said yes or no.
Ok well potatoes are a definite yes. We also eat a lot of carrots, parsnips, tomatoes lettuce. I use a lot of herbs in cooking particularly coriander and basil.
But i would also like to try and grow some other vegetables that are a bit dear to buy in the supermarket which would vary our diet a bit any suggestions.
Also my daughter loves strawberries I remember my dad growing these, and i used to eat them all before he had a chance to pick them GORGEOUS!! are they hard to grow.
Thanks Miss_bubbles for the book suggestion I will keep an eye out for it.0
