Insuring a mobile bought on Ebay?
Hi, I would like some help in finding a company that can insure my blackberry 9500 that I bought off ebay. Most companies I have found say no auction sites or require proof of purchase.
I bought the phone brand new last month, and have the ebay and paypal receipts?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you

I purchased a new mobile off ebay to put my vodafone contract sim card in. I went into a vodafone store and they transferred my account and insurance over to the new phone with no questions. I recently cancelled my insurance with vodafone and took it out with my bank. Yesterday I dropped my phone in the bath when washing the dog, so I rang the bank to make a claim, they have said that they will send out claims forms to me, but they also want proof of purchase, the only proof I have is ebay and paypal receipts.
I dont understand why the bank did not ask for proof when I took out the insurance?
Does anyone know if the proof I have is sufficient?
Many thanks

Hi I have been looking into this recently as I wanted to purchase an i phone off ebay but obviously wanted to insure it through my bank. When I contacted them they said as long as the original purchaser gave me the receipt then it should be fine. So I made sure on the auction I won I got the receipt.
I hope if I ever do have to claim then this is the correct proceudre!0 -
I have lifestyle mobile insurance from coop premier account. I don't yet need to make a claim, but I want to be 100% sure that I will be all right when I do need to make one. The insurer wants IMEI number mentioned in the receipt. But I recently bought a phone from orange online, but their dispatch note or invoice doesn't mention the imei number. I tried with their CS but they are useless.
How does everyone else get their claims in?0 -
This is true, you cannot insure mobile phones bought from ebay and other auction sites. This is because the product maybe second hand one or it may have defects. So the insurance company wont take a chance. I think that’s the main reason. It’s a fact so keep your cell safe.0

How much did you pay for the phone? And how often have you had to claim on insurance in the past? Why not "insure" yourself?
If the phone cost £150 new, would be worth £75 after a year, and you make an average of one claim a year, then you only need to put £6.25 a month into a jar to buy a replacement. If you want "new for old" insurance, put £12.50 a month in a jar.
The best bit about insuring yourself is that you will get a payout if anything happens (no small print or paperwork to worry about!) and if you don't claim... you can keep your premiums and it hasn't cost you anything!
The only insurance I'd buy is to cover things that I could never afford to cover myself - vehicle insurance (imagine getting sued for £1 million liability!) and home/contents insurance.0
