I sem to remember that Councils are being urged not to provide enough parking in order to encourage people to use pulic transport. That's not to say that they're told "Don't provide enough parking" I think it's more a case of "You only need 0.5 spaces per flat" (or thereabouts)

It's worth a try, although make sure you can find other reasons, because parking restrictions may not be considered to be a 'problem'

all reasons can be valid and yet not be valid. councils dont have to take any notice of objections.
do you remember the newbury by-pass?

its a private person making flats not the council themselves but expect it will be used to house tenants who have come through the council does that make any difference!

Sorry but you did not quite understand what I meant !!

It would not make any difference if it was a council project or a private development they would both have to be dealt with in the same way .

The point I was trying to make is that the government are trying to increase the amount of housing available as the population grows .
I do not think it would be possible to raise objections and remain anonymous.

I suggest if you have concerns raise them with the planning department and contact your local councillors raising the points you are concerned about .
Even if the application is turned down the developer could still go to the planning inspectorate on an appeal

As others have said speak to your local planning department and ask them about the local plan. Our area for example has it written in that properties should have provison for a minimum of 2 cars. I'm not sure if this applies to flats but this is exactly the sort of thing that would get the application refused.
  • Let us know how it goes ??? I believe there is a person who works in a planning department who posts on the forums he maybe will be able to give some general advice but it is difficult as every planning application is different

This was taken from a website from a borough of London

The Council can only take into account 'material planning considerations' when looking at your comments. The most common of these (although not an exhaustive list) are shown below:
    • Loss of light or overshadowing
    • Overlooking/loss of privacy
    • Visual amenity (but not loss of private view)
    • Adequacy of parking/loading/turning
    • Highway safety
    • Traffic generation
    • Noise and disturbance resulting from use
    • Hazardous materials
    • Smells
    • Loss of trees
    • Effect on listed building and conservation area
    • Layout and density of building
    • Design, appearance and materials
    • Landscaping
    • Road access
    • Local, strategic, regional and national planning policies
    • Government circulars, orders and statutory instruments
    • Disabled persons' access
    • Compensation and awards of costs against the Council at public enquiries
    • Proposals in the Development Plan
    • Previous planning decisions (including appeal decisions)
    • Nature conservation
    • Archaeology

We cannot take into account matters which are sometimes raised but are not normally planning considerations such as:
    • The perceived loss of property value
    • Private disputes between neighbours
    • The loss of a view
    • The impact of construction work or competition between firms
    • Restrictive covenants
    • Ownerships disputes over rights of way
    • Fence lines etc
    • Personal morals or views about the applicant.
Hope this has helped but sometimes you do not even have to apply for planning permission on certain things as you have a certain amount of permitted development rights and as Tesco knows if they buy a public house they can turn it into a shop as it has a drinks and food license already without planning permission I believe
