Have you tried Windows Live Local, the birdseye views are much more detailed than Google Earth.

Go to http://maps.google.com and type your postcode. Then when the map appears, click on "satellite" in the top right corner of the map. No need to download Google Earth!0

Some of the maps are more detailed but the ones I looked at are about 5-6 years old whereas google are about 3-4 years old.
Still good to consult the two together.

This is a fantastic website full of brilliant pictures or overlays of things on google earth, you can just download things with google earth open and it takes you straight to it. The overlays are fantastic, I found for helping with my daughters history homework when she was doing pearl harbour as there are aereal shots of the ships ect and just some fun things to look at

Oooh I like this one!
Shame though, as the pictures seem to be around 4 years out of date, although they do have street names (unlike Google Earth/Maps) just no streets :rotfl:The £2.00 Coin Savers Club = approx £22.00  :j.. The 20p Savers Club = £17.80.

If you you want the best of both worlds (Google and MS), try this, http://www.flashearth.com/. It allows you view anywhere in the world and switch between Google Earth or MS Local Live.
I find the Google maps are more up to date and clearer, but I guess it depnds where you are looking.0
