    all these come originally from https://www.getmapping.com (and the millennium mapping project) where they aerial photed the whole country..... you can get maps, books, posters etc.

    Just checked my photo – It shows open ground where houses now stand so my photo is about 2/3 years old. Still good though.

  • If you go to https://www.multimap.co.uk they have the same photos and maps but bigger and you can zoom in and out and order high quality copies if you want to pay, but you can print the free ones :)

    I like the 'overlay' facility in multimap. You can move your mouse over the image, and it overlays the road map over the photo, usually with spot on accuracy, so you can see just which streets you are looking at.

    You used to have to click a button to do this, but having tried it today, it just seems to be doing it automatically.
    All of this might just be an elaborate simulation running inside a little device, sitting on someone's table.
