DLA decision & mysterious payment

Hi
My dad has recently applied to increase his DLA benefit from low care to middle care and mobility.
He's just had a giro from the DLA people for £18 for 6 days out of the blue, and a letter that says the decision of application is in the post. My dad phoned the DLA people and asked if they could give him the decision over the phone, and they said they wouldn't.
I know it's second guessing, but does this sound like:
a) the giro is to make up the difference for a higher rate he has been placed on from a certain date
OR
b) He's completely lost the DLA benefit and the giro is a 'last payment'
I know we will find out soon, but I am not paying rent or CT because of him being on DLA so you can understand my concern.

There is no middle rate for mobility, its just high or low0 -
How do you not have to pay rent or CT because your Dad is on DLA? Surely if you are an adult child, your income would be taken into account for the rent and you would be liable for your share of the CT?moped_mark wrote: »I know we will find out soon, but I am not paying rent or CT because of him being on DLA so you can understand my concern.
Maybe I've misunderstood, but you wouldn't want your dad to get done for fraud for not declaring all household information.
Edit: have just seen in your previous posts and appears that he might be getting a care element which means your income is not taken into account - even though you tried to pay your share of rent and CT. Will leave this here though in case others also question it!0 -
ok, Sunnyone, I said "his DLA benefit from low care to middle care AND mobility".
Anxiousmum, a non dependant living with someone who is getting DLA, doesnt have to pay rent or council tax. Unfortunately its not a very well known fact.... which explains why I'm worried whether my dad will keep his DLA or not.
I have just noticed that the giro for £18.56, might be a payment of mobility for a week, as my dad received his normal DLA payment last week... Will just have to wait and see. There's still hope!0 -
both low mobility and care are £18.65 so not that guess you will have to wait for lettermoped_mark wrote: »ok, Sunnyone, I said "his DLA benefit from low care to middle care AND mobility".

You still pay council tax, its on HB/LHA that ignore other people living in the home of someone on DLA care but you can get a council tax band reduction if you have a kitchen or bathroom adapted and used exclusivly by the disabled person (as well as the normal ones) or if you need a wheelchair full time so your house needs to be bigger to accomadate the wheelchair0 -
"A non-dependant is normally expected to contribute towards your rent and/or council tax. Therefore, there may be a reduction in your Housing and/or Council Tax Benefit to cover this. The amount deducted depends on the weekly gross income of the non-dependant.
There is no deduction made for any non-dependant that you have in your home if you or your partner are:
· registered as blind/severely sight impaired; or
· in receipt of the care component of DLA or either rate of Attendance Allowance."0 -

You still pay council tax, it is rent that that is discounted.0 -
Thats not right sunnyone, I fought tooth and nail for this and its both rent and CT, because I had a rebate for CT I paid up until they realised my dad was on DLA, look at this link.....
When no Non-Dependant Deduction is made:
No non-dependant deduction will be made from Council Tax Benefit if the claimant or their partner is:- Registered as blind or having regained their sight been registered as blind in the previous 28 weeks OR
- Receiving
- Any rate Care Component of DLA
- Attendance Allowance at either rate
