Best dongle internet for basic use?
MiM
A friend of mine is looking for a dongle for basic Internet access. He's an older, basic computer user, just browsing rather than big downloading.
I don't think a contract would be a problem rather than PAYG, so either option fine.
Is there an agreed bestd eal around at the moment or is it more complicated than that?
Thanks!

The actual dongles are pretty much the same.
What is important is where his nearest local transmitter is and what network it is.
You need a strong mobile signal for reliable internet use.
Also not all transmitters are fast internet, a lot are really slow.
After deciding what network then go on a PAYG initially. If he likes it and uses it a lot sign up for a contract. Plenty of deals around.
If you need help finding out which is the best network locally let me know.0 -
You can get prepaid 3 dongles: 3gb will last 3 months max. and cost around £39. The 12gb costs £69. No contracts and no direct debits etc.
As said above, you do need to check the postcode coverage before buying anything.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

When 3 is good, its very good.
But if you are not in a good signal area - no signal at all indoors and no refund if you are on a contract!0 -
Theres a dongle on the Grabbit board for £9.99 at the moment - no experience of it but others say it's good. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

I've got a 3 mobile broadband contract. They are (at last look at least), the cheapest per gigabyte. If you're a light user, this translates into really cheap mobile broadband. If your friend is a 3 customer, they have an offer on at the moment for 25% off your monthly fee.
The most important thing is to check the coverage where he knows he'll be wanting to use it. I'm very happy with mine, but my coverage has recently been increased by Three. It's not much use for bittorrent or anything bandwidth intensive, but it's just as good as adsl for general web browsing and such.
As said above, they do PAYG as well.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j
