What should I do next - Paypal/seller issue.

Hello

I have a smiliar problem to the poster below with a new seller who has not upgraded their paypal account to accept credit and debit cards. The listing said Paypal only and the logo and CC logos were displayed. This morning the seller actively refused my payment rather than leaving it unclaimed. I have attempted to contact them but have not had a response as yet. I understand they are probably busy but if they were logged into their email to refuse the paypal they could have spent another 5 min to explain the situation to me.

I'm not sure what to do now? The auction ended only yesterday so obviously I'll sit it out for a while. But I'm worried about getting a negative feedback as a result.

Thanks,

WallyUK

Try a polite message, saying that you only bid because they had displayed the PP logos; could they please advise on when they will be able to accept your PP payment.

Thank you, I've tried a polite message but no response as yet. I've even said I'm willing to pay in cash since it is a collection item. Oh well!?! I'm not sure what on earth I should do if she never contacts me.

If she never contacts you, (or perhaps, even if she does, depending on how she responds) file a non-performing seller report.

why not put funds into your paypal account and pay from there instead of being awkward for the seller?

yes, you 'should' take ALL paypal payments, but this policy only exists to force paypal sellers to upgrade to fee paying accounts

don't be a sheep, help the seller avoid nasty fees...............

if they continue to ignore you, then file a non performing seller, if they don't want to help themselves a bit!!!

(also point out the potential issue with paypal and collection / pickup items........no tracking number= no seller protection!)

Thanks for your reply. As far as I am concerned I am not being a 'sheep' or 'awkward'. I am willing to do whatever is convenient for the seller be that funded paypal or paying cash on collection. But unless they contact me I can't make any other arrangements. My Paypal account is not verified so transferring funds from my bank account would take a number of days. I would like to check with the seller first before I did that.

bleugh why should the OP be inconvenienced by this? He has bought and tried to pay for an item and the seller apparently is choosing just to ignor ehim.

However, from the last posts it seems this is a collection only item which means the OP is dealing with a dim seller so is likely to encounter problems anyway. I say the seller is dim because who on earth would take paypal for a collection item...it's daft.

Going back to the OP...get their telephone number from ebay and give them a call.

ok, maybe a little harshly worded, but, the time it's taking the OP to try to rectify this, he could have had cleared paypal funds in the account, and it would have been 'sorted' by now!!!

i've had two sellers recently apologise for not being able to accept credit card funded payments for the [small] items i bought..........I said no problem and loaded my paypal account which took about 5 days and paid from that. I also warned them that by displaying the paypal logo, they DO commit themselves to accepting ALL paypal transactions, E-cheques included :-( and other buyers may not be so flexible when paying...........

yeah, the OP shouldn't really be inconvenienced BUT, if the seller won't budge, why bother escalating it, the OP wants to buy, the seller wants to sell, if someone budges a bit, the transaction will go through rather than the stalemate they're currently at!!

otherwise, do as SOO says, give 'em a bell

If the seller though won't even respond to emails how does the buyer even know they will accept a bank funded transfer? We are all guessing that it is a paypal/credit card problem but we don't know that for sure. It may well be that the seller has put the wrong email address down or something, until the seller bothers to say anything we can only speculate.

    QUOTE]

To be fair I am a seller who does not accept paypal payments from accounts funded by credit card. As you correctly point out, the policy only exists to force sellers to upgrade and I, for one, refuse to do that.

Instead I make it clear on all of my listings that I only accept payments from accounts funded by bank accounts. Then if someone DOES try to pay for something via paypal/credit card i point out the remarks in my listing and politely request another method of payment. For the most part buyers are happy to oblige - i've had a few who just then don't pay at all but most are fine.

The way I see it, i'm not a business, I ebay as a hobby and therefore prefer to avoid unnecessary fees.

But if someone chooses to report you, you haven't got a leg to stand on. If it doesn't worry you that you could get a NPS against you, it doesn't worry you, I suppose!

Actually, I have every sympathy for sellers in your situation, but, since I only buy via paypal funded by credit card, I find it intensely irritating to wade through listings that say they accept paypal, but don't. Of course, I don't know if you've ticked the "accept paypal" box in your listing - if you haven't I'm not sure if your listings would come up when I do a paypal only search.
