you could sit at home and compress a packet , measure it, walk to the post office and find its filled with air again, then even if the postoffice squashes it flat again and prices it, what happens when it inflates again and goes through the sorting machines ?
The guages will be set at the Post office counters somehow..and it all depends on whether your package will slip easily through the slot. I use those grey tamper proof bags and they tend to swell up in the heat so they would lsip through at home using my guage, but a few minutes after sealing they get stuck...
If I could help them through I'd be fine, but the definition is they must slip through easily.

My post office has the gauge set up already on the counter at just one window, it's the only place they could have put it. I'm told that there will be another behind the counter too so that this could be used by the other window.
It is in thick perspex and has edges marked as a ruler, I've had a go already with DVDs, they didn't always pass through, it depended on the jiffy I used and how many times the invoice in the 'document enclosed' thingy was folded.0 -
I've just returned from the Post Office and I asked if they had any leaflets regarding the new charges. The guy behind the counter laughed and said they'd had to destroy them all because of a blinding mistake.
Where were the proof-readers?
Can you imagine the cost of reprinting and distributing them again?0 -
AT you do raise a valid point, I have two different makes of jiffy bags here for my books, one packet is a lot thinner than the other...so in future 'thin' jiffy bags may sell at a premium!

I know, when it was first posted it seemed so far away, and now we've less than two months to work it all out.

Ok, I am now worried sick. I pack all my ebay items in the silver bags but wrap everything inside in bubble wrap so even very small things are quite thick so everything will have to go through at the higher rate. I suppose I could put everthing inside the extra big bags unfolded and hope thye dont crumple into a ball en route.
Also what happens about items going abroad?

Ours has one by every window, and they're in the most annoying place imaginable! I normally put the pile of parcels there while I'm sorting them to be weighed, but now I either have to put the bag on the floor and lift each one out individually, or hold the bag, which I can't do.apprentice_tycoon wrote:My post office has the gauge set up already on the counter at just one window, it's the only place they could have put it. oh wat can of worms have the p.o opened by doing this......i sell various items from books to my vintage clothing and vintage handbags and stuff...its going to be a nightmare....i think .....for the first few times until i can gauge it (excuse the pun) ..everything that i am going to list on ebay... i will pack it ,but not seal it.....and take it to the post office for a price for the postage....and ask them to write it down......until i can get used to it.....
they said it was because they were losing money on the bigger parcels..... i think its another ways of cashing in on the ebay sales.....they say that some postage will be cheaper.......when has anything gone down in price ?
before ebay really took off the post office were losing money.... by all acounts..the sales on ebay has helped big time to turn the post office around.....even my post office has said a large percentage of items are now due to ebay sales.....
there was talk that the postal service was to open up to other operators......Work to live= not live to work0
