  • Mr Original - Im impressed. You have really taken on board the advice of people here so far and done quite a bit. Well done ! When you get your next pay try to stick to your budget and let us know how you get on. Youll be surprised at how much easier things get when you know exactly what is happening with your money.

Hi Mr_Original - just wanted to say well done because you really seem to be taking things on board and putting a plan in place.

If you fancy it, come and join us daily on the ' what small DFW things have you done today" thread. It is really good at keeping you motivated, and acts a bit like your conscience speaking to you every time you want to say "sod it", and blow your money on something stupid.
  • Boring as it may sound.. but stay in, that's £100 saved.

It's not easy getting out of bed, it's far easier to get into it.

To get out of it, you need to be able to count.

NEVER SPEND MORE THAN YOU CAN AFFORD. YOU DON'T NEED DAVID LLOYD EITHER. GET EFFING RID ASAP.
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)

*whispers*... he has got rid of Mr L...
  • wow! sounds like we had a very similar situation. Its good to know you can do it, and eventually make it to the other side. Bet your so excited to be debt free? You going to go out and party?! (within budget, of course :p )

Reading your post just sounded like it was something I could have wrote myself two years ago. I hope my story helps you see light. I'm not debt free yet but I can now see a better life where I'll finally be able to enjoy my salary!

Like everyone else has said, well done for all your activity in the past couple days. Try to keep it up. You must feel so much better having taken the first steps to changing your ways.

Ref my #18, I take it back, you have had your LBM! Well done, we're all so proud of you. Keeping it up will be hard work but its very satisfying watching your debt decrease.

It also helps one to learn new habits so you will always keep an eye on your outgoings - even when times are better.

No way you have failed now.

Thank you to everyone for the support! I must admit I am a little taken aback, did not expect it!

I think the key for me was getting it down on paper so at least I know. Sure I will be in debt till 2013, but at least I have a goal and an aim. Before it seemed an impossible task so I just ignored it and kept spending.

I am kicking the budget into gear now. I will not go out at all for the rest of the month and on the limited food budget. The biggest step for me is going to be payday, fingers crossed I stick to the plan. And for the next 4 years

I think my first post was a little stubborn, so I may not have been all the way there! Since writing it down on paper it has relaly helped

Nottoobadyet: I would be interested in hearing your ideas! I have had a good look round but I guess im not that original! :p

Explaining your debts is easy, compared to explaing DFW:DT

What is DFW? I imagine its debt free... something?
Do you actually have a joint account with your flat mate or do you mean you have an account in one of yours names that you both use? If you are finanically linked that might be bad news for your flat mate

Well not really linked, only by name? I have only messed this account up once which caused a direct debit to not go out. in 7 months though this is the only black mark on the account.

do you think this is a big problem for him and his credit rating? as i will remove it if so?

Thanks! Im convinced the key to success is accountability, and posting as much as possible will help that! I will take a look

Oh, I told my girlfriend. I cooked her the 3.50 spag bol meal deal from Aldi and casually mentioned it. I didn't go into massive details but told her the amount and why. It was pretty funny as she is in fairly similar position from uni, so she understood! I explained my plan and she seemed happy and positive so that went really easy to be honest!

    Happy days!

Oh and more good news! I called our gas supplier today, they have totally and utterly messed up our billing, so after some complicated conversations and a crap load of holding, they are refunding it all, total about £200! Woo!
Total debt as of 16-1-09: £23223.27

Est'ed debt free date: Dec 2013

Great news about your girlfriend - funny that she is also in a similar situation! Just goes to show - we all assume that we are the only person in debt but really everyone around us could be too! I am pretty sure that none of my close friends are in such a pickle but I'm sure I know others who must be. Congrats on all your hard work, your post has been great to read and the transformation in your attitude from your first post has been brilliant - keep it up!
