Dell 307-D05915r - why is this such a bargain?

I'm on the look out for a new PC which I don't use for gaming. Normally I go along to a local store which I've been using for at least 10 years and get one built to my specs. I do not want to build one from scratch myself.

I've been looking around and see a few references to the Dell 307-D05915r as being such a mega deal at £599. Can anyone tell me why - is it using lower specs for its components or what? Does anyone know how many USB ports it has - everything seems to use USB these days that you seem to need more and more?

In other words are there any pros or cons I should be aware of?

Here's the link to it;

    My advice would be to wait until next month or a little after. Intel are in the process of releasing the new Conroe Duo 2 chips and this should cause the current range to drop in price. :)

    Thanks. The problem with waiting is that there is always something new just around the corner.
  • The newer chips produce less heat and have higher performance per watt also.This means a less noisy cooling system(hopefully!)

    So are you saying wait also and not buy the one I was asking about?

    In my experience the Dell`s are so quiet anyway, there would be no point in waiting around for something quieter.

    As for the price, and as you mentioned, another cheap thing will be just around the corner and you will never buy anything!

    Unfortunately I cant see the dell that you have linked to as the link has expired. Perhaps it was TOO good a deal.

    i got my Dell about 5 months ago from eBay, it was brand new and from a dealer i think, it cost me £480 altogether and has the same specs as that, although mine is the 3.2 P4 and didnt have a monitor with it (bought 1 for £50 a week later)

    just to say dells are great PC's and have had no probs with mine since i got it (touch wood)
    MSE is cool

    if you buy from Dell order by phone,
    go through the motions with the salesman right until the end and he wants your card details, tell him you will think about it because you saw a similar deal by mesh (or any other pc dealer you can think of)
    you should get some discount or possible upgrade (Double the memory is the usual one)

    worked for me buying the sons laptop
