Speed up your broadband...!

Probably already been talked about but if not...and you can....log onto your router and start entering domains for the various advertising sites into your blocked sites list. This ensures that you dont download unwanted content when web browsing.

Only works if you have a router which allows this function.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

This doesn't speed up your broadband, the only thing that changes is that web pages will be a little quicker in loading (since they need to download less)

The net result is the same, i.e faster loading pages.

Please explain how this will allow me to download a Linux distro faster than I can at the moment.

    Just block ALL adverts https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

I block all Flash too but do maintain a list of a few sites where I want it (say movie trailers etc).

yay - I use Firefox with the Adblock addin.

Simple to install and does its job well. You can also right click anything you don't like the look of and block that particular image or anything from that webaddress.

Much, much easier than fiddling with your router settings.:j

I'm not a guru, so please explain for me and others.

My BB runs at a more or less constant 9.8Mbps, on a good day I download at around 1.17MB/s.

So what sort of speed increase can I expect?
