I'm not sure to be honest as on the few occasions I have been involved with a damaged parcel I've always kept the packaging in case RM want it.
Somewhere in the mall print it says that packaging must be adequate for the item, and th eonly way you can really prove that is to show the packaging.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I've had a claim rejected before as I didn't provide enough packaging around an item.
10cm all the way round I think it was.0 -
I also got rejected for a claim for a damaged item saying it wasn't wrapped in accordance with the Royal Mail guildlines, i wrote back saying it was sent Recorded delivery and nowhere in their terms and conditions does it say the item has to be wrapped within their guildlines, after all it's just a guide !! (and the item did have 8 sheets of bubble wrapped around it !!) They again refused to pay out so i have now escalated this to thier regulators, it's not the cost that bothers me (£35), it's the fact they are trying to wriggle out of it. Why have a claims procedure if they arn't clearley going to pay out ! Stick with it !5k in 2010 member #80 - £217.00/£5000 :eek:0

The guidelines suggest what is adequate packaging. If you used less than suggested I am not surprised your claim has been rejected.
The guildline for a bottle of perfume was a carboard box, i think 8 sheets of bubble wrap in a strong postal sack was more safer than a cardboard box, the package had got caught in machinery, if it was in a cardboard box it would have made no difference !! so YES i am surprised it was rejected !!5k in 2010 member #80 - £217.00/£5000 :eek:0 -

sack vs box for handling would make a difference

Also, why do the post office ask you to send in a digital photo of the damaged good and packaging, only to months later ask for the packaging to be sent in
as far as I am concerned they have worked out their own poor quality service is leading to increased claims from respectable decent honest folk - such as myself, and are trying to avoid their own compensation scheme...
SHAME ON THEM!
feel free ot use a courier then
as for a boot mark
often packets fall off the trolleys as you push them and cant see them till your foot hits them
done it myself0 -

We do this all the time. It's how we spend our non existant tea breaks. We usually put custardly in goal. Ever thought that it may have fallen from a trolley and was perhaps stepped on accidentally?

No Idea. Did the parcel arrive in a damaged in transit bag or did your customer just receive it after the game of football?. If it was taped or in a bag, that normally advises to keep the packaging for future reference.

If you feel you have had poor service from them, then take it further.
I'm all for customer rights, but when accusations are make with the regards to my colleagues etc playing football with packages it gets my back up. I'm not Royal Mail's biggest fan.

the package arrived as normal - from the sellers account, it was still sealed, apart from the boot marks no sign of damage, only once opened and unboxed was it apparant that the plastic top of the record player was smahed through....
anyone know how I do take further? - I appear to have exhaused royal mails internal complaints....who si teh regulator, was the small calims court idea ridiculous? etc etc
well wouldnt small claims ask for proof of the damage/quality of packaging?
since you dont have the packaging.......
why do you find it so strange they want to inspect the packaging?
a digital image doesnt really prove anything and given how many bogus or claims through insufficient packaging its no surprise they request the packaging0
