BT phone hub v Netgear

I recently moved home and had to switch from AOL to BT because AOL couldn't connect my broadband the same day. I need broadband to run an application that I use for my part time income. I can log onto the internet any time, but can't get onto the application after 6pm. Someone suggested that it may be the strength of my connection. It must be because I can't connect on it through the other computer in the house as well.

In addition, my daughter is often unable to use her laptop wirelessly as the internet connection drops out at odd times.

I used a Netgear router for AOL. It dawned on me this morning that the problem could simply be the BT hub. To be honest, the thing only seems to be necessary if you need to use the hub phone.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

So why don't you just try it with your Netgear router and see what happens? You don't need to use a Home Hub to connect to BT broadband.
You say that your daughter is trying to connect wirelessly, but not how you are connecting. If you have the same problem, using ethernet, then it's not a wireless issue. If you are using wireless, what happens if you use a temporary ethernet connection?
Problems after 6pm sounds more like a contention issue.

BT tend to limit usage between 6pm and midnight. Can you tell us when access to your application becomes available again? I'll wager it's 00.01am.
