Hi ... i dont think its the file ransom thingy ... cos i have not recieved any files demanding ransoms ... the files just are no longer there.
I did a system restore to a point a couple of weeks ago and the folders were there but the files still were not.
I have just tried one of those undelete programs but it found absolutely nothing.
When avg was finding the viruses last night there was one to do with JAVA and one called trojan horse dialler (as far as i can remember)
am i right that a dialler wont affect me cos i use broadband?
Honestly how bloody unlucky can you get .. i was going to backup all photos and music files today!!!A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0 -
ok quick update ... am currently scanning using the pcinspector program .. so far found about 600 jpg files so i think that about covers the photos. next i have to find music and some videos.
one thing i have noticed is that a lot of folders on my pc now have thumbs file visible but faint ... these were never visible before there are also a lot of other files here and there which appear fainter than others that appear to be system files ... ?
i am currently using firefox as my browser .. i usually use IE but i noticed the past two times i logged on .. i connected to broadband ... then opened IE .. it told me that the page was unavailable unless i connect (after connecting first) and when i click connect another window opens with nothing on it and the pc slows down dramatically.
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP SO FAR!A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0 -

it sounds to me like hidden files and folders are on view,
open windows explorer,( ie my documents etc) then click
Tools
folder options
view tab and select do not show hidden files and folders, then click ok0 -
ok i'm still going at this ......
i have found what i think are most of my pics using the pcinspector program ...
most of them say that they are poor condition and any that i try and recover are not working properly ... i.e when i double click on the recovered file .. picture and fax viewer opens as usual ... but i get 'no preview available' ... photoshop wont open them either ?
Does this mean i have lost them altogether?A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0 -
