Black Eye - How to Reduce Swelling??

Think i may be putting this in the wrong place but here goes anyway!
I have my 6 year old son off school today after he has spent the night vomiting everywhere, about 45minutes ago he decided to run across my front room (you would think there was nothing wrong with him  ) but tripped over one of his little sisters toys on the floor. He ended up going head first into the bottom corner of the sofa.
It instantly came up bruised and swelled like a balloon he also has a small cut just underneath his eye which started to bleed slightly. I immediatly put a cold flannel on it and managed to stop the bleeding and we have now swapped the flannel for a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel which he is holding over it.
I have checked his eye and there is no visible damage to the eye itself just the outside of it, he can see fine no blurriness etc and he is fine in himself. He is also in no pain.
I took him down to the chemist and asked the pharmacist to have a quick look (i get more sense theer than i do from my gp  ) he said it looks fine and to keep on with the frozen peas but if he starts to feel tired or dizzy then take him straight to a&e.
Was just wondering if anyone knows of anything else that i can do to help reduce the swelling? Im having trouble getting him to keep the peas where they should be. Have tried googling but it didnt come up with much

You have done everything right so far. Apart from the frozen peas there is not alot else. Give him plenty of love and hugs too.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

I think the peas are good, but if LO won't keep them on, then anything cold will do. If it's going to swell though, there's not that much that you can do. Bribery might help to keep the cold stuff where it should be though
Hope it heals quickly for you.0 -

He doesnt seem to mind keeping the flannel there, would that be as effective as the peas? Have already tried the bribery option though he doesnt respond well to it

Its difficult not to panic, but you did stay calm and had him checked out.
Let him carry on like normal just keep an eye on him. I'm sure he will be fine. Its us parents who worry more than the child.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
