I was initially looking to go over the weekend of the 12-14th Feb, but with this being Valentines day, and maybe half term(?) I thought I'd look towards the end of Feb instead, but the prices weren't much better. Is this still a bad time?
.
Don't forget that the 16th is Carnival/ Mardi gras and many places in Europe will have special stuff prepared for that date, and it might even be a holiday, so you are likely to find lots of people travelling that weekend. But this would explain why it is an expensive weekend. If however you find all weekends are equally expensive, then it might be a good weekend to travel since you will find parades and special events to make your romantic break even more memorable.0 -
Hi,
How about Krakow? it's got loads of history, a castle, very pretty city square and it's way cheaper than the usual European hotspots, also the amber and silver jewellery is really nice.
So you could get that Valentines gift in as well!0 -
I haven't found anything cheap enough yet to be honest. I've found a few possibilities, but I resent paying the same price for a weekend as a week in summer! As such I'm also looking for cheap summer holidays, it'll just be a while to wait!
I hadn't thought about it being Mardi Gras then, that could work for or against me as you say. I think I need to do some more searching tomorrow, I'm sure the deal I want is out there somewhere!
I've been thinking about Krakow, it is somewhere we both want to go, but I think we'd probably like to spend more than a weekend there. I've got a Polish friend who's currently asking his friends from home for recommendations of where to stay there etc.
I do need to get something special for Valentines day actually, last year I went snowboarding on a last minute deal and missed it, so I could do with making up for it this year. So much so that even Elizabeth Duke might not cut it!
Thanks for all your help, you've been brilliant.0 -
