Cheap weekend city break in Feb

My girlfriend's birthday is coming up, and I've been trying to find us a short weekend break to somewhere in Europe. I've looked at Thomson, Thomas Cook, Lastminute and a couple of results that Google brings up, but they invariably say either "no results returned" or ".......£550"!

I've been looking at travelling from either Manchester or East Mids, to places such as Barcelona, Milan, Rome etc. Are these bad choices for the good deals?

I was initially looking to go over the weekend of the 12-14th Feb, but with this being Valentines day, and maybe half term(?) I thought I'd look towards the end of Feb instead, but the prices weren't much better. Is this still a bad time?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Look at 5-7th Feb or 26-28th Feb.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.

The 5-7th Feb is no good sadly as I have exams all that week, so I think that by the weekend sleeping will be a much more inviting prospect than travelling! I'll focus on the 26-28th though, thanks.

My budget is up to about £300 for the two of us, but less is definitely better!

    Thanks

I've just been looking for you on bmibaby and you could fly to paris from east midlands for £50 each - it's a bit of an early start on the friday 06.40 ann then I think it was evening returns on the sunday. i would suggest also going onto ryanair's website and just going through all the destinations you fancy from east midlands and seeing which is the cheapest. \in theory you could use skyscanner to cover all the different airlines but I'm finding them less and less reliable - ie not showing flights which are actually available and at the other extreme showing flights to be more expensive than they actually are so it's best to have alook at individual airlines' websites - bmibaby have a big sale on the moment and we've booked to fly to paris at easter for £5o each return. good luck

That's brilliant, thanks. Hopefully I'll have a quiet day at work tomorrow so I can have a good look through the offers there!

Thanks for doing that, I've just had a look at Bmibaby and found the flights you mentioned, I might have to hide the clocks if I drag her out at that time in the morning though! There are some very cheap flights on there with only a few seats left, providing I'm a bit more flexible with when I leave. (It's a shame that the taxes cost 3 times more than the flights on the cheapest ones though!)

I'm going to have to take the phone off the hook and lock the door tomorrow at work I think!

yeh I wouldn't fancy the early one but if you take the later one like we're doing it takes a full day out of the weekend. have a look on ryanair (not for paris maybe as it'll take a while and cost quite a bit to get into centrel Paris) but Girona is lovely for a weekend (what they call barcelona-Girona) and also malaga itself. bergamo is supposed to be lovely as well (what ryanair call Milan)
