Hi,
I am wondering where i stand legally on this one....
I bought an electronic item from a major dept store in May 2008, it has develped a fault. They have asked for proof of purchase for the item, the only thing i have is my card statement they said this was fine.
i give them the card statement and then they say we dont believe that your item cost this much as we have been looking on the internet and we believe you only paid X amount for it.
They are no refusing to deal with me.
What can i do?

You might have bought 2 items that day. I once had the identical issue with Boots, where an electric shaver fell apart after 11 months. I simply asked for a replacement, only had the cc statement. They were fine with it and replaced. Many stores have detailed records esp if you have a loyalty card with them, I suggest be a bit more insistent and don't just ask for cash.0

Surely they should be able to find your sale on their system with the information and they can tell how much you paid for it?Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

I have had a similar thing recently where I was unable to suply a proof of purchase at all. I spoke to trading standards and they advised me that a receipt is not a legal document and the shop are not obliged by law to provide one. Therefore, conversely, you are not under an obligation to provide a proof of purchase when a refund is necessary.
I would think the statement is more than enough proof backing up the purchase.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -
