Overcharged for stamps - inform Royal Mail or not?

I agree with dzug1. Unless the shop has agreed to terms and conditions that would prevent the shop from overcharging for a stamp (as part of a purchasing contract with Royal Mail for example), then I doubt Royal Mail's T&C's apply and my feeling is that it's fine to charge whatever the retailer wants to charge for a stamp. Shops generally set prices after all, not suppliers.

There's nothing in this thread so far that indicates it's illegal to sell a stamp for more than Royal Mail sell it. There could be special laws that exist for stamps though.

I thought it was illegal for any retailer to sell single stamps. It used to be that only the Post Office was allowed to sell them singley.

    Assuming you can find one.

Since 1997, 40% of Post Offices have closed. And some 55% of Post Offices that were open in the 1960's have closed.

Besides, why shouldn't one expect to purchase a stamp from a corner shop and post the item in a pillarbox, if that is more convenient than a journey to the Post Office?

As I said in my OP, I was just curious more than anything else.

Going to the Post Office mid week is not an option as there isn't one on my way back from school.

That is the point though. You want the convenience that this shop offers but in effect don't want to pay for it. I would be just grateful that I had that option if on the odd ocassion I didn't/couldn't go/get to PO.

If I was the shop keeper and had any hassle I would just not bother doing it. Hardly going to send the kids to Eton wth a few stamps....;)
