Overcharged for stamps - inform Royal Mail or not?

It's not a massive deal - I'm just curious. A shop I went in today was charging 35 pence for a second class stamp, when they are meant to be 30 pence.

Do you think the Royal Mail would like to know? Is it legal to charge more than face value for them?

    Heres an idea.

    Dont go to that shop.

They are offering the stamps locally and obviously want some profit for doing that. If you dont like it go elsewhere and avoid the added convenience.
  • Im guessing they didnt give you a recipet for the stamps, how can you prve the cost?

Good point, I have no receipt.

It's a well dodgy little shop near my school. They no longer sell tobacco, presumably because the right to do was removed!

As I said, I was more curious than anything else.

I expect it's legal, but I can't imagine they get much custom!
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler

Well they got me! Only because I really needed to post some letters. He said they were 35 pence and I did question it because it seemed too much - checked when I got home and yes, they are only 30 pence. At the time I figured it was just another Royal Mail price hike as it's been a number of years since I bought a second class stamp!

    From another forum...
... retailers are not permitted to charge more than the face value of a postage stamp. Retailers are bound by a set of Terms & Conditions when they sell any of our products. We take very seriously any reports of retailers who overcharge for stamps (ie for more than their face value). Customers can complain in writing to:

Sounds reasonable... but IMHO not definitive.

Thanks for your help. I'll write to them if I get time, but it would mean having to buy another stamp lol! :p

    Is there an email address?
