My car insurance has increased after a claim that wasn't my fault!

I had to make a claim this year on car insurance when some idiot drove up the back of me. My renewal has come round and the premium is 47% higher than last year. When I asked the insurance company why they said that statistically I was more likely to make a claim that WAS my fault because of last year's accident - even though the guy admitted liability immediately and my no claims discount has apparently not been affected! Anyone else heard that tosh or been subjected to the same rip off exercise by insurance companies? Has anyone been able to successfully claim it back off the other insurance company as an uninsured loss or am I just another ripped off punter??

Strange though it seems, the actuarial evidence is that it is true, people who've been involved in an accident are then more likely to have another one.0 -
yeah same has happened to me - see my thread from last week called 'why has my premium gone up 100%'
i have since shopped around as suggested and ...the problem is they all seem to know about it and there is nothing as close to what i paid last year
also i have heard that there is absolutley no point having a no claims bonus if someone smashes into you then YOU WILL PAY FOR IT - in which case what is the point of insurance?
im so p155ed off with the situation so much i may just sell my car - insurance people (thieves) have moved up my list of hated professions - now 2nd only to bankers!

Does this evidence take into account the type of accident?
It's just that many of us find it difficult to believe that if someone drives into your car, whilt it's stationary and you aren't even present, that your risk somehow magically increases.
Is this a case of the analysis lumping all accidents together?
So people that weren't even there suffer too?0 -
If they didn't put premiums up for people who have made claims then EVERYONE would be paying considerably more as a result.also i have heard that there is absolutley no point having a no claims bonus if someone smashes into you then YOU WILL PAY FOR IT - in which case what is the point of insurance?0 -
I would argue with them and tell them that the incident was'nt MY fault so how do their statistics bear out. I would also check that they have got you down as a no fault claim and not the other way around.

No this isn't true.
If you had say a 50% discount on your no cliams and let's say that is protected, then the increase in premium will be discounted by 50%.
So it's untrue to say there is absolutely no point.
Let me show you with an example.
£500 premium rises to £1000 after accident - zero discount.
If you have 50% then it would go from £250 to £500, so it's half the increase.
Protected NCB is even more worthwhile.
Yes there is an increase.
No it isn't as big, so there is a benefit.
You don't escape unscathed but the increase is scaled down.0 -

You could also argue that EVERYONE should pay for the completely random "I was asleeep in bed and someone drove into my stationary car" type of incident.
It could happen to anyone regardless of your driving ability.
I don't think anyone would argue that if you amde a mistake you should be penalised, but it is hard, when you were completly faultless and perhaps not even there.0 -

which is exactly what happened to me - 100% INCREASE WITH 7 YEARS NCB0
