the last way is to download a copy of windows thats an OEM version (OEM means Original Equipment Manufacture, so if its Acer you need the windows xp OEM acer cd) and then you can use the serial key on the bottom of the laptop.

you need to download the one that matches your serial key, it will say Windows XP SP1 2 or 3 so make sure you get the right one..

I dont think im allowed to post on here where to obtain the CD's from but im sure its not illegal, well its borderline..

Actually, as far as I know you can use a normal retail version of XP Professional, but you'll probably need the correct service pack and the correct key, which he can get by using MagicJellyBean Keyfinder.

it is in safe mode and it is plugged in, it will let me on tghe net but if i put things like avg, ccleaner or pcpitstop the google screen just turns white and does nothing

Safe mode with networking? What are the symptoms of the viruses, how have they been detected, which virus scanner is installed, are you sure it is virus related? You cannot get to any site at all, or just those listed, some viruses block av sites, but ccleaner isn't AV so very surprised if something is blocking it specifically, check the host file.

If it is virus related, then a bootable AV cd might fix it.

i dont know what the the antivirus is called, but the list says trojan, something catcher, theres loads.

i have managed to install ccleaner and spybot which has been downloaded from my comp onto a disk then put on to the poorly comp (it wont let me put AVG on ive tried to download it to a disk and put it on the poorly comp twice now) is there any more i could download on to disk then put on the poorly comp?
