Does the laptop not have a recovery CD?
Anyway, download a program such as BartPE, load it up and format the c:\ drive.
By the way, if you do format the hard drive, make sure you have an OEM Copy of Windows XP with the COA sticker. Otherwise you will need to download a copy of Windows to reinstall itOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

have you/he tried to identify the viruses and uninstall them? formatting should be a last resort unless you've got all the discs to put all the software back on.
try as many of the online virus checkers, malwarebytes etc that you can find before resorting to formatting it.
has your friend not got the Windows CD or any system recovery discs?

It contains advice that you can read from the PC you are posting on though.
If you have a USB key you can download the programs to that and work from there.
Sounds like the first job is to get you admin access though. I need to go back to work so won't be back until later, but I'm sure Rik or someone will be along shortly and can help.0 -

But you have Internet access from another machine, so you can put the necessary software on a USB drive or CD.0
