Hi all, am looking into claiming WTC next year but am very close to the threshold with OH's wages. I know this year the earning threshold is £17k ish but was wondering if this goes up each year and if it does by how much?
Thanks for any help.

Maybe a quick phonecall to them would be of more use...?0 -
Tried that before I posted the first time but for some unknown reason they wouldn't tell me- wouldn't even tell me what the earnings threshold was the year before ?!0

I suppose that might be because they think fraud could be commited if you know what the threshold is. I'll have a hunt around and see if i can find anything...0 -

You could check with the Do I Qualify questionnaire:

That's how I found out what this years was but still would like to know if it increases each year. Thanks though :-)0 -
as WTC is reduced on a sliding scale, depending on income, it would basically be down to the 1p whether you were entitled or not, but currently the drop off point, is around £17.6k
however, trying to keep under £17k for the sake of a few £100s WTC, is it really worth the effort?
by one of you working an additional hour a week on min wage, you would take home more than you could get in WTC
if you input various income scenarios on entitled to or the hmrc website, you would work out what the cutoff point would be based on your circumstances
