Day out in Derbyshire?

I live in Belper and there is lots to do. For the little one there is chucklebutties indoor soft play area. Its got a grown up area too and they serve good coffee and homemade meals. Its near the Mill. There are also lots of restaurants and pubs in and around the area for meal.

The River gardens near the mill are lovely and there is a nice park for the kids, ducks to feed. You can look round the mill and have a guided tour.

As for original ideas, I was going to suggest a hot air balloon ride from Ambergate and then read he doesn't like heights lol!

Cromford, Matlock, Matlock Bath, Bakewell are all lovely. There's quite a bit to do in Cromford. There's a fantastic book shop that people go to from all over the country, its called Scarthin Books. Also at Cromford you have Arkwrights Mill with a few select shops, the mill, a canal side walk, cafe etc.

You can leave the car in Belper and use the bus or train to visit Cromford, Matlock and Matlock Bath. The trains from Belper are 2 mins past the hour, not sure about bus times but the bus you need is Transpeak. This service goes all the way from Nottingham to Manchester.

Matlock Bath is a bit like a seaside town without the seaside! Bikers from all over gather to have chips an ice cream and a walk along the "prom" and admire each others bike.

Ashbourne is nice too.

It all depends on what he likes to do and the weather of course.

Around 30 mins drive is Castle Donington home of Donington Park.

There is also Derby and Nottingham with their museums and shopping.
