Sorry!! Another 'What Phone Should I get?' question....

:confused:Hi everyone,
Sorry its another 'what phone should I get question'!!
I've been with 02 (and had a contract) for 4 years now and currently have the IPhone on an 18 month £35 p/m 600 minutes and 500 texts tariff!!
My contract runs out on the 12th February and I know that as of today (13th) I can upgrade as I'm now in my last month of my contract however I'm really stuck as to what phone I should upgrade to (or change networks to get!!)
As much as I love my IPhone I really don't think there is an awful lot of difference between the 3G and the 3GS and I dont think I can wait until/if the new one comes out later on in the summer as any Iphone contract is still likely to be 18/24 months in length with at least a £35 a month charge (to get more than 75 minutes and 100 texts!!) and I will probably have to pay something towards the phone too which is what I was told by O2 when I enquired a month ago about upgrading to the 3GS!!
My dilema is that circumstances have lead me to look into going for a lower p/m tariff - hopefully no more than £25 and preferbly a 18 month contract.
The main things I would really like in a phone are:-
1. I would really like a phone that I can read/access my e-mails easily on (my main e-mail account is with ntlworld/virgin). I check them several
times a day.
2. I surf the net quite alot too and sometimes feel disappointed that I can only have 8 pages open at one time on my IPhone (maybe I'm expecting too much!!) so unlimited internet and quite a good speed is a must!!
I have only gone over my £35 monthly tariff once in the 17 months and that was for calls to an 0845 number and as I rarely go over 250 minutes and 350 texts each month I guess this means O2 will not be too bothered
if I left them!!
3. I listen to my music quite alot when I'm walking to work etc.. so a fairly good easy to use music player is pretty important too.
4. I also play on the applications that my IPhone has in my break at work so a few good games or prospect of a few good applications (if not now then in the future) this would be good too - I have filled all my Iphone available pages with applications but only really play on a couple of them and I have never paid for any on Itunes as most are demo's which I'm quite happy with!!
5. I like the touchscreen on the Iphone for typing texts etc... so I am happy with this and/or a qwerty keyboard and I like being able to make text bigger with the pinch method but this is not necessary.
6. Maps to navigate when I'm in the car with my husband helping him find somewhere (I use my google maps on the Iphone)
7. Facebook - I love chatting and catching up on news with my friends and family during the day!!

I guess reading this it seems all my criteria points me to another IPhone and if I could afford it and think that months down the line I wouldn't be bored with it then I would go for it but I can't see this happening....

I don't mind paying up to £70 for the phone if it means that I can have a cheaper tariff as I will probably get some money back for trading in my IPhone 3G. I'm just not sure what to do!!

I've looked into the O2 simplicity tariff but would really like a new phone!!

(BTW - I like the look of the Nokia N900 (but too expensive and a bit bulky) The HTC HD2 looks bigger than an IPhone and Orange told me there were lots of problems with it and I've read bad reviews!!

Is there anything else out there (thats decent) for £25 a month or am I being totally unrealistic!! Maybe I could stretch to £30 p/m at a stretch!!!
Also If I was to change networks and leave O2 how much notice do I have to give them and what happens when my contract runs out in February if I do nothing? I've always upgraded in my last month of my contracts before and not sure how it works!!

Sorry this message is really long and many thanks for any advice in advance....

What about an iphone simplicity tariff?

    £20 month
We all evolve - get on with it
  • Many thanks for your reply but I really would like a new phone and not just a simplicity tariff be it an Iphone one, which I have already considered.....

For what you want it for, you really are better switching to simplicity and then getting the new iPhone when it's launched.

Only things I can think of are Nokia 5800 (which the iPhone is far superior to, but does everything you want) or the HTC Hero, which is quite a dated phone now, and you'd need an additional memory card for the music aspect.
  • Virgin media have some pretty good deals at the moment, I'm considering a Nokia N86 when my deal runs out next month it has a pretty good write up in the mobile mags and is on at £25.00 a month with very decent allowances. I would take a look at their website if I was you! Hope this helps.:j
