Dividends are under pressure across the board. Many Investment Trusts are paying maintained dividends out of reserves. Only 19 companies in the Dow announced increased dividends in 2009.
Companies are fundamentally conserving cash to repay debt.
I don't think they are paying dividends out of reserves with oil price of $80, anyway reserves or current profit they are still only returning your own cash, that is why you see a drop in share price when they become ex div.
BTW BP dividend cover is currently 1.73'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. I've been posting less as I have found a new home on the forum....
I am sure you give out good advice there.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. I love that an Off topic thread came back to the economy...even if with some poor temper.
Lemonjelly, I'm ok. my PM box here is full, so unable to receive them ATM, and I don't have, ATM, the time to resolve that, so apologies to those who are waiting word from me, or trying to contact me....and I haven't been on since....the 4th I think. I understand things have been less good tempered here? which saddens me. I'm hoping to catch up with PMs by the end of the week at the latest.0 -
Lovely to see you back, LIR!
Was I right - did you post a while back that you were going on holiday?
PS The Nice People thread would love to have you back for a cup of tea and a biscuit.0 -

I have a bit of speculation as to a possible reason.
For some reason, I do occasionally become aware of 1 or 2 particular posters being absent. Strangely, I generally miss them. For example, I am glad to see kennyboy still posting - I was worried about his post just before christmas.
There may be others - not necessarily ones I read every day, but every now & then. All of a sudden, I become aware I haven't read a post by x for a while.
Anyhow, with their proliferacy (is that a word? If so, is it the right one?) anyone know why pastures & lostinrates aren't about? I hope thay are well. I miss them.
I would miss most actually. But I'm not going to post a list of names, as I'll both forget people and am convinced I'd miss some, but also don't wanna give you lot big heads;):D
I think everybody is just about sick to the back teeth of hamish mctavish and his never ending spamming posts... sick of seeing his name pop up personally so have kept away; plus all the other posters on here who kiss his !!!!!. Its like being a bystander in the playground watching the bully boy and all his cling ons.0 -

Are you trying to argue that mental health issues haven't risen in the western world over the last few decades? Try reading the World Heath organistations latest reports.
How is stating a FACT not being objective ????0 -

Well strictly speaking there are two things: has the incidence of mental illness risen or has the diagnosis of mental illness risen?
My feeling is that the latter is probably more important than the former.0 -
