To be fair it's a long way off becoming HPC in reverse, but people need to be careful to keep their objectivity and not instantly dimiss anything that doesn't fit the postive view.

When was the last positive post from you

If major companies in the same industries report downward pressure on profits. Then maybe its time to pocket profits at this point.

    Hardly a collapse. ;)

PS. Did you see that BP cut its 3rd quarter dividend last year.

Was that down to 6% yield

House prices rose by 4.5% last month alone up here.

I'm sorry but that smacks of data skewed by low transaction volumes. if you believe that prices actually rose by that much in December during a recession then you are foolish.

Yet transactions are far higher now than they were this time last year, when prices were dropping. Up 20% in fact on this time last year, and now at 65% to 70% of 2007 levels.

If you believe that low transactions were accurate on the way down, but higher transactions are less accurate on the way up, then you are foolish.

PN is moving?! Where to? Heard she was looking down my way- there was even suggestions of picnics on the beach- not sure if I was actually invited mind :A:D

I've noticed a lot of people have effed off (hopefully temporarily) too. I read a lot more than I post (cos I still don't understand most of it :o), so I have missed certain posters also.

If BP is paying the dividend out of reserves, not current profits, then its returning to you "money" already embedded value in the share price. So the shares are actually worth less as the Company does. ;)

Dividends are under pressure across the board. Many Investment Trusts are paying maintained dividends out of reserves. Only 19 companies in the Dow announced increased dividends in 2009.

Companies are fundamentally conserving cash to repay debt.

She's moving down to the big smoke.

lostinrates is on holiday, I think, so hopefully she'll be back into the fray in a bit.

A few ppr'ed - a few more a bit bored...it is self-fulfilling - someone stops posting because it's a bit quiet, so does someone else, and before you know it...it's a bit quiet. ;)

I suppose, a la the Chinese proverb, we should be extremely glad that we're not curently living in 'interesting times' - not huge amounts of economic or housing news to discuss, compared to when Lehman went down, say and we were all panicking - but then that must be a good thing, surely?

    How are you doing, sjay?

When I see real postive data not manipulated but artifical stimulus then I'll freely admit things are better.

How much of the so called positive data really is positive. For example, retail spending going up. How does it help us to keep buying tat we don't need, digging up materials from the ground and then dumping it in lanfill when we have become bored of it. Is that really a positive action for mankind.

The drive for GDP growth in the western world has reduced the level of happiness and increase mental health problems. I was hoping this recession might change our direction for the better.

I've been posting less as I have found a new home on the forum....
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
