Properties costing more than LHA rates

Why dont you just pay that extra £10 per week out of your jsa??
You could apply for discretionary housing payments,
but because its only £40 per month gap they wouldnt give you it as would tell you to just pay £10 per week from your JSA for it.
I'm a bit of a newbie here so wondered if you would kindly explain to me what discretionary housing payments are ?. I moved into this property with my ex partner who at the time was working,we weren't able to recieve housing benefit due to my ex partners income. When my ex partner moved out I asked the letting agent to find me a smaller property but they are yet to do so,the council only pay £80 per week L.H.A so I am expected to pay the surplus of £30 a week which is impossible when I am only recieving £49 a week in J.S.A.0 -

Discretionary housing payments.
If they give you it they will help you bridge the gap between your housing benefit amount and actual rent.
To apply go to your local council's website, benefits section, and the form will be there for you to print off and fill in.0 -

In regards to LHA/HB can you apply say 2 weeks before you move in? Or does it have to be once you have moved in (even if you've already signed a tenency agreement?)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I bet you are if you're getting £1500 a month rent paid. That is obscene!
What does that pay for?I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

Thats just what the average rent is in this area, very far from 'obscene'.
And it pays for my flat, what else would it pay for?0 -

As I'm sure you're not planning on making a career out of claiming benefits have you thought about how you're going to afford rent like that when you've got a job?
Of course depending on your wage you may still be able to claim some LHA but it's not going to cover all the rentFuture Mrs Gerard Butler

Well I rented a very swanky 2 bed 2 bath flat in London for less than that, so I'm pretty certain you're talking !!!!!!.

Yes im sure you did rent a very 'swanky' 2bed flat in central london for less, i however live in a 1bed flat though as i have no need for a 2nd room, and also cannot afford one.
But im glad and pleased for you that you were able to have such a nice home.
I dont cheat the system in anyway though, live within my jobseekers budget, and pay my rent from within my LHA housing benefit rate.
So im not sure why the attack?0
