  • AVG free is OK but it won't stop spyware and malware.
Anti-virus does just that - stop viruses but there are a lot of other nasties on the net.

Download the full avg internet security free for a month product.
Then search on ebay for a license code from a genuine re-seller.
I've done this for the past few years and average £1 a month for the full internet security product.

I'm sure others will recommend which 3 or 4 products to download and use at the same time.
  • hi bargaingalore thanks for that info and have succesfully downloaded MS

    Free antivirus security www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

    AVG www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus/

AVG is still good for a new good specced machines but it not so good with old machines or netbooks.

MSE is an excellent bit of software for most.

    Only use one anti-virus.
  • I find avira great, does not slow your PC down at all. Only bad thing is a pop up appears when daily updates download but i can live with that!

I would have thought that was a good thing as you know you are getting updates!

Good and free! No such thing! I believe you get what you pay for and I have tried all the free Av products and gave them up in favour of Vipre, which found all sorts of nasties which the freebies didn't pick and thei support is excellent.

What coolsteel is referring to is the pop up advertising the paid for version,
updates are signalled by a small pop up box on the taskbar.

The advert is easily disabled by using the link in Jemma-T's post, takes about 10 seconds.
    Move along, nothing to see.

    Fresh air?

AVG and now Microsoft's own option are excellent. The problem is people could have lots of security and still install crap. No security program can stop that.

Some paid for products are better at removing problems but if you don't get the problem in the first place you'll be OK. Sounds obvious, but I suppose most things do.
