Does Anyone Think That There is Price Fixing Going on with the Iphone?

Ther was me thinking that when the O2 Exclusive deal with Apple ended that the pricing would be more competetive instead of staying the same over all the main competitors

Apple dictate the price, so it is not up to the re-sellers

As above, it's well know that Apple have control over the price and are known for not letting anyone devalue their products.
  • There is even device fixing. Vodafone listed the HTC HD2 for precisely three weeks. Despite massive demand for this handset they abruptly dropped it and changed their script so that every call centre rep tries to flog you an iPoo. Apple refused to have the competition on offer so here we are.

If Apple think their device is better than the rest why are they doing this? Could it be that they looked at the HD2 with its far superior screen, better camera, open-access OS and 1Ghz processor and decided it was a threat?

    Quite probably.

Apple are know to have a 'do no rock the boat' clause in their contracts. You mess with them, you get no more stock. . .

Which is why when you see any Apple iPhone advertising it has to use their stock images, fonts, wording etc.....

Speaking from a mobile sales job - Anyone who calls up wanting a new phone ideally wants the iPhone. It's all about the image associated it. They are in the 'coolest brands' list near the top and everything they do is about the image which is why they never have prices on things.

Most people I speak to don't care about the OS, the quality of the screen...they want something out of the box and easy to use, their friends brothers wife has one they just had a go on and they love the apps on it. Apple are innovative and have done so much for the mobile market! Apple know this and that they have a premium product and can basically charge what they want. For every customer that won't pay the prices, theres another ten that will. And I know that from experience! Why would the networks want to lower the prices anyway knowing how much o2 have made from it?
